My originals band have got a few acoustic radio sessions coming up, with the first one being quite short notice - next Thursday.

We've not done any acoustic stuff before as we're your standard four piece electric blues/rock type affair and therefore I don't own an acoustic bass. (Have had one in the past and was not my thing at all really) - trouble is the bandleader is fairly insistent that I use one for these sessions. I could in theory pick up a cheapy one for not too much money but at the moment I am beyond skint so don't really want to do that. I've asked around locally to see if anyone has one I could borrow but with no joy.

Now... like I say, I've not done an acoustic session before but I'm thinking what is wrong with just taking an electric bass and a small amp? They can mic it or DI it etc the same as they'd have to for an acoustic bass surely? and its a radio show so its not like anyone would know it wasn't acoustic.. and does it really matter anyway?

just a feeler at the moment but looking to trade my immaculate condition Lakland Skyline Duck Dunn (candy apple red with Hanson preamp) for something else. Main things I'm after are:

Musicman Sterling (maple fingerboard)
Fender Jazz (or similar j-type bass - again, ideally maple fingerboard)
i could also maybe do with a decent Rickenfaker for a tribute project i'm involved with......

[i]possibly[/i] interested in other interesting, nice basses too.. whatcha got? 4 strings/fretted only mind!

ok so ages ago i saw some vid of an American bass player, black dude, playing a Spector i think, with really odd technique where he has his bass well high and his right hand reaches up from under the body playing kinda upside down..... you've probably seen him before on youtube etc, but i can't for the life of me remember his name or seem to find him on google....

haha yes it is well nice (would stick a tort pickguard on it tho!!)... after a jazz soon but same old story.. no money!!

aw man... sorry you didn't get on with the bass, especially after coming all this way to get it etc!! (i'm loving the Lakland tho!!)

anyways.. as the one who recently sold this to the seller I would 100% vouch for honesty/integrity and also for the quality of the bass - good luck with the sale.

So.. hit the studio with the band the other week... always get stressed recording and we hadn't played together for a year! This song was dropped on us by the singer on first day of session.. so pretty much unrehearsed apart from couple of run throughs... quite pleased with it though.. full album coming soon!! (and hopefully some gigs!)

not really needed in most cases unless band members have some kind of decent back story/history that would perhaps up the kudos of the band... list of favourite food etc and 'humorous' biogs are pointless imho

hmmm.... pretty dull most of 'em i thought! i was expecting some proper amusing tall tales not.. 'once we did a gig and there weren't many people there'.. oh well.

Janick seems to annoy alot of people... i don't think I know any Maiden fans who like him... and is there really any need for him to be in the band anyway?!

i wear my bass pretty high so everything stays in the same place whether i'm playing seated or standing. Do occasionally get stick for it when playing the rock but just find it much easier. Sometimes if its a band where image counts then i'll sling it down low, which i prefer for chucking it about onstage but my left hand loses a lot of dexterity i find as it has to bend round more.

Sarzo is an awesome bassist and rock star!! but yes, maybe he does look a little out of place in this scenario... much more suited to his previous ozzy/whitesnake etc type more energetic/visual bands imho.

yeah i've never seen another six string one, pretty rare i think (i found mine in some backstreet music shop)... i was dabbling with six string basses at the time and it played loads better than a yamaha trb6 i tried.

nice bass.. i used to have a six string version of this and was surprisingly good quality and playability for a 'lesser' brand name... so have a bumpage!

am liking the white one muchly!! but yes, theres only a certain amount of times you can re-invent the wheel surely?!
