  1. Since being a kid I always fancied a Rickenbacker after seeing the amazing Mr Foxton on Top of the Pops. Now I'm up for an upgrade from my Peavey and I'm going to put £1500 or there abouts (a few hundred pounds each way, ok £2k tops) into my next bass. I want the Rick (cos its so f***ing cool), but I'm looking for good sense and value for money so any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. Steve Ward

    Hello.

Morning and thank you for the warm welcome. There seems to be a lot of support for punk on here, which is not a bad thing I have a lot of punk tracks on the hard disc in the Jeep (the only place I can listen to them). The Peavey is a bxp, it was our lasses Christmas surprise and by was she surprised when I walked in with it lol. Groovy.

    Hello.

Hello I'm Steve from Woodlesford near Leeds and I joined this forum yesterday. In my teens I had a Vox Custom Bass, a HH Powerbaby head and a Carlsboro Stingray cab and played in a couple of punk bands, I did a bit of thrashing and stuff and never became an accomplished musician hanging up the bass when I was about 20. Now in my mid 40s and in the throes of a mid life crisis I decided to buy an Ibanez acoustic bass (it really is a wonderful thing, almost a work of art) in September 2012. Much to my surprise I was walking up and down the strings like an eager teenager in no time, it really is like riding a bike. However this time being older and wiser I decided to do things right so I'm currently working through Serious Electric Bass, by Joel DI Bartolo, fantastic book as it really does make you think, work hard and understand music theory. Scales and arpeggios are really quite easy to understand I was pleased to discover, I'm so enthused with my minor and major successes that I have Bass Harmony, Advanced Bass Guitar by Kevin Sullivan on my must acquire list. Anyway my other half is less than impressed since I came home with a Laney RB3 and a Peavey Cirrius just before Christmas to try and satiate my appetite for all things low frequency and shes going to be even less impressed when she finds out about the Allen Woody Rumblekat I'm having delivered. As for music I'm aiming to play funk since discovering Funkadelic and Laffyette Afro Rock Band oh and I'm going to have a crack at studying Jazz, I'm far too old to be playing that noisy punk stuff. Its taken me over 25 years to discover that there is more to the bass guitar than thrashing the root. Groovy
  4. I'd be interested, played bass in a not very good punk band in my teens, then put the bass up for 25 years. As part of my mid life crisis I bought an Ibanez acoustic bass this September just gone, since then I've acquired a Peavey Cirrius, laney RB3 and got an Allen Woody Rumblekat on the way and our lass is absolutely fuming. Getting out on a Tueseday night seems like an ideal escape from her indoors, oh she's ginger so doubly dangerous. I live in Woodlesford, so I'm about 20 minutes down the ring road.
