Will be doing a demo of this one with Seeger valve head. Should be interesting. -
It was some generic thing I found. I wanted something in Chrome. Sounds fantastic though. Cuts through like a chainsaw. Really digging the tone, very unique. At full tilt it all goes to hell with lots of hollow distortion. Entwistle would have loved it.

Finally finished my 1966 Checker Cab tribute slab. I had alot of fun doing this one and it sounds really epic. The T-Bird bridge pickup really brings plenty of 'roid-rage' to an already aggressive tone. Huge sustain at 22k! Wired to Jazz Bass configuration with high mass bridge and bone nut. Neck was a custom made one piece maple with 7.25" finger board profile. Love it. Totally absurd in every way.

Sounds sweet too!!!

Just finished my Frankenslab. I must say I'm blown away with it. I had a 51 alder body which I sprayed last year then lost interest in it. Had a neck made by good ole Bernie Hefner in the US in one piece, but with 7.25" fret radius and vintage slim C back profile. The pickup I also had for some time which I had overwound to about 9.3k. Add some Gotoh vintage tuners and a bone nut and we got a bass. Put a vintage NOS dime cap on her and she sings like a bird. I hope you approve. I had a wicked time putting this abomination together. Its one of the best sounding basses I have ever played. It just goes to show you don't have to pay out big bucks for a great sound.

Those Babicz bridges are awesome!!!

Always wanted to play a slab jazz. So I made one. Epic!! The body was a two piece 45mm thick which I finished in oil. The neck was a Mighty Mite ebanol fretless. The pups were custom over winds clear dipped. I put on a Babicz Full Contact bridge which I had lying around. I also used a brass nut and strung with flats. Loving it. Sounds massive with bone crunching woody lows and zingy highs. Can't put this bad boy down. Its a keeper for sure.

Many thanks. I'm trying very hard.

I also used the '67' paddle tuners. I had the neck made by B. Hefner in the USA, and I must admit, he did a really nice job. The neck was very straight and correct with the 7.25" fret board radius and slim 'C' vintage back profile. I had read mixed reports about Bernie, but I would use another one of his necks and very good value for the money. I added the Chrome pickup and bridge covers for a bit more an authentic look. I'm personally not that keen on them. I fitted a brass nut and saddles to a vintage Fender bridge. The pips were custom hand wound clear dipped and I used vintage NOS tone cap for that era. It turned out nice and I was able to get a lovely low action without any buzz. Tone wise, it was nice and barky with plenty of high and low end. I use a 300W Ashdown combo and it loved it. Bring up the mids and that vintage woody growl punches right out. The overwounds also added to that 'overdriven' scream. and howl. I would have to have tried it through a nice valve head, but, hey, you can't have everything.

I think I saw it up for sale a while ago. Really interesting piece nevertheless.

More of a classic look on this one.[attachment=171946:SAM_0862.JPG]

Was that the one that was up for sale for £10,000?

This slab was loosely based on Wally Waller's bass.
