No 'Starsky and Hutch' White Stripe? 😉
Fore-arm contour to lower horn...
Keep the updates coming...
It's so close to Torino Red in photos but it's really orange in person I swear!

Hi all -
I just uploaded my first EP to YouTube. I actually finished this in 2018, but never gave it a proper release outside of the film it was part of. The documentary was all about the Congolese Sapeurs - a much larger story about filming in the Congo is for another time!
The soundtrack is a collection of pop, rumba, afrobeat, swing and funk. It sounds like chaos on paper, and it was admittedly too ambitious, but I feel we managed to just about pull it off. Listening now, there's stuff I'd do differently, and mixing choices I'd change, but all the original files are long gone.
Anyway, thanks for checking it out + Would love to hear feedback. Cheers!

As much as I like the symmetry I never see the point of a cutaway that still doesn’t give access to the upper frets.
You mean 12th fret isn't considered upper?!

Just wondering if you got to buy this Bass
I didn't make it in time. The guy did manage to sell me a nice Tokai Hard Puncher though. It's cool, but I really wanted to try that Greco.

It's gonna be stunning!

Incompetence
Came here to say this. I always know if it's me playing if it is littered with mistakes, and not in a good way.

I'm not sure with wood. 240 is probably enough as the oil wants to penetrate a bit and you sand the first couple of coats in and wipe off the excess. As opposed to the paint which just sits on the top and shows every little scratch.
I had good results up to 500 on the neck, with just 2 or 3 wiped coats of tru-oil. Never felt a slicker neck in my life.

My priority would be to get rid of the black on the neck and headstock...
I'm on it. The neck is in a bad way, need help replacing the truss rod and things, but I will be stripping it soon.
May I ask for opinions on the headstock? My gut says to leave it original, but I could be talked into something else.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread about resurrecting an old bass! I did make a new thread forgetting I had this one already - I'll post updates in here from now on!

I wholeheartedly agree with your decision! My tru-oiled jazz neck is the best thing I ever did to that bass. I'm gonna do all my basses like that!

Restoration of a Fender Boxer (Jazz Bass Special) '85 MIJ
in Repairs and Technical
Posted
Just saw this! I love your slanty bitsa. Yes I restored a Boxer PJ535, however I moved from Thailand to Australia before I managed to figure out the electronics properly. I was attempting a vol/vol/tbx with 3 way pickup selector (as original), but with an added series/parallel switch. I couldn't get it working properly before I left the country so it is sitting in my apartment waiting for me to finish the job. I will share videos as soon as I'm back and able to get it up and running.
Good luck with the project - these basses are wonderful and should be preserved
