  1. Thundercat last night

He's clearly a very talented bloke but its a mad old combo of out there jazz madness meets super smooth dreamy soul/rnb type thing

What is for sure it you get world class playing from  drums and keys and bass  and it sounded superb

Best live bass mix i've heard and i've seen Geddy, claypool, levin .karn   etc

  2. Cheap basses are way better than when I started in 1979

    Pre Squier etc

    Only catalogue kay basses etc

If you got the right bass in the 80s it's value has risen but it's not across the board .

    If I was skint I'd happily buy a £250 bass .

  3. Sad news indeed

He was a big part of Kates work once she started to find independence in her music making

Some great work on The Dreaming onwards and as much as I loved the big name cameo bass guests he did what was left brilliantly

You get time wasters on anything sold online and I think most genuine buyers would go and inspect it in person. By not making the effort I think it weeds out those with no intention to buy. Clearly not desperate to sell

Agree , there's a point you make some effort for an interested buyer . I'd be reluctant to pull a vintage bass apart for a maybe buyer . They guy sounds like he knows enough to value the bass but not keen on taking it apart  . Many aren't . He's encouraged a physical try out so sounds genuine.

  5. Took to lenses straight away in the 80s

I'm that age now where lenses are no good close up so gigs fine apart from setting up  leads and pedals etc in the dark . I wear glasses 70% of the time now as they are varifocal

Interesting - prices seem to have plateaued recently; I guess partly down to the global economic situation and partly there’s been a bit of a spate of selling, presumably owners taking a chance on getting the best price now.    As that spate dries up I suspect prices will creep up again, as Wals will not only continue to be perceived as investment items, but also are still very much used by pros and session musicians who will pay what it takes to achieve that sound.   It’s been said before; £10K might seem a crazy price to us, but a pro / semi-pro violinist or classical guitarist could easily pay ten times that for a top level instrument.

I’ll be hanging onto mine though 🙂

I bottled out when Derek Forbes ex Simple Minds was selling his Wal on ebay .It went for £4500,about 7-8 years ago

    i should have gambled

A timely topic for me. I’m likely to sell my CIJ P bass soon. BB offered me £650 based on the description, I’m guessing they will sell it at near £800. I’m not sure whether that’s a good deal for me or whether £700 to £750 is a fairer deal for me. Hassle vs hassle free.

i think thats a great offer ,i sold a mid90s cij 62 P private for £495 about 4 years ago ,same as i bought if for . If they sell for £800 the vat is in there and its complicated on used items  ,perhaps £100 of the sale is vat ?

  8. A name from the days of listening while reading sleeve notes

i started playing in 79,with a pick ,strangling a little amp to punk songs

i can remember hearing Breathing and not having a clue what i was actually listening to .A great steep learning curve followed

    Great great player

  9. Hello all

Sorry if this has been covered before

    I've got myself a lovely 60s hydrid p bass

The fretboard is very dark rosewood and the fret markers are a very faded white, half over the rosewood half on the neck

i'm more of a Jazz bass  player and struggling a bit with seeing where i am .More so on dark stages

Any ideas for markers that doesnt involve touching the woods etc ? dont mind stickers etc to a point

    Much better 😍

My Spector and Yamaha looks worried now 🤣

    I had a gorgeous Euro4lx spector

I'd say it tipped the Sadowsky on the E's bottom end but the the G and D didn't cut the mix half as well
