  1. Hi, Currently I mainly do acoustic type gigs, but might well be going back to more rock type ones in the near future. Venue is usually pubs and small clubs and normally with PA support. I have a budget of £450 give or take a few quid. I am attracted to heads and cabs, which I think give me more options for the future. Home practise is silent through headphones and PC/USB interface. Rehearsals are all covered with rehearsal studio gear or my own amp when I get it. What should I be looking at? I know I will get better if I buy second hand, but as a comparison what would be a good buy new? What would I get second hand for the budget? Is this good for the money a waste of time? http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_ba250h_bundle_2.htm There is an identical deal but with the 500w head. Is that better? Or how about this http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~Ashdown-Mi-Bass-220-+-Gallien-Krueger-210MBX-bass-stack~ID~17352.asp Or this http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~Gallien-Krueger-MB200-Bundle-With-210MBX-Cabinet~ID~17701.asp Any info is really appreciated. If it helps I play a Sterling Ray 34. Cheers Jon
  2. Thanks for the reply, but I think the head is speakon and 1/4 inch jack output. Would you use one for each cab or one for both cabs in series???!
  3. So, I am thinking about buying a bass rig. Questions of quality, budget, bangs for bucks aside, I am getting confused about the best way to connect a head and two cabs together......parallel, series, ohms, watts etc etc. Have read the various sticky topics on the subject, but taking this (link below) as an example, how would you plug it all together? Would you go head to cab to cab or head to cab and head to cab......if you follow??? http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_ba500h_bundle_3.htm Thanks for any info supplied Cheers Jon
  4. Hi All, I'm Jon and I have a confession to make......I am a guitard........I feel dirty now......:-) Luckily I am also a long standing bassist, so that makes me ok I hope??? Strangely enough, and maybe somewhat uniquely, I am both a guitarist and bass player in the same band. We are a three piece based out of Leicester and, whilst I am on the only bass player in the band, I am also the only lead guitarist in the band. I just swap between electric and acoustic guitars or bass depending on what tune we are playing. All good fun, but it does mean three different rigs need schlepping to every gig. Anyway, I've been reading posts on this forum for a few months and thought that I should sign up and say hi. So hello everyone. I've certainly found this forum an interesting place to be. My band have just released our first album. All written, recorded, engineered and mixed by ourselves, although we did farm the mastering out. After 22 years of playing bass, I am finally looking at buying my first bass amp (don't ask) and I've got some questions, but I'll post those under a separate thread in the correct forum. Our album is free, so please download a copy from http://www.rosedalecrossing.com/download Or it can be streamed from http://www.soundcloud.com/rosedalecrossing I'll pop into the relevant forum and post my amp related question. Cheers Jon
