1. The thinline tele is coming along so I thought I'd put up some pix for your entertainment....

It's only roughly shaped so dont judge the outline or finish yet....you can do that in a couple of weeks when she's ready to go. The lacewood dark flames come up real nice and dark when finished which looks stunning and very different.

Australian Lacewood top and headstock cover
Ash body
Lacewood/purpleheart through neck
Birdseye Maple Fingerboard (34" Fretted)
Ebony details
Nordstrand NV4SV pickups
Aguilar OBP-2 Preamp
Gotoh Bridge

3.
I have one of these and it's the best sounding SWR amp I've ever had the pleasure to own and I've owned a lot! This is a bargain, mine cost me about this much and it isn't in anywhere near as good condition as this.
Have a free bump!
+1 I've got one and will never sell it, I've had lots of (high end) amps and this is the best by far! 220 SWR watts is plenty for 5 piece classic rock pub/club band. Love it. Great price and stuuning condition. These are sooooo good for the money!

4.
Have you changed where you actually place the amp on the stage recently ?

Or has the stage layout forced you to position the amp in a corner, or near a back wall in the gigs where it's sounded louder ? (as opposed to being nearer the middle of the stage away from any walls).

Positioning a speaker cab in relation to surrounding walls can create a "coupling" effect that can affect the volume.
Thanks for the ideas- I dont think that's the problem, we have played pretty much different venues every gig over the past month. ranging from small pubs were we're jammed in a corner to large functions with loads of space. the 'problem' has been increasing wherever we play!
No one else in the band has changed guitars/amps/cabs/drums/PA in the past month.

5. bloodaxe - I'll certainly try that this weekend, it is an old amp so i wouldnt be surprised if there was crap on the output contacts. I did hover out the dust when I got it but didnt inspect the sockets.....
Could be a dodgy component changing the gain as it warms up.

Are there any valves in there? My amp definitely gets gradually louder for about an hour after being switched on - I think as the valve in the preamp warms up.

Another option - assuming a rotary control knob, has it slipped on its shaft?
Thanks for the suggestions
the volume doesnt change from initially turning on to the end of the gig.... I dont think the knob has slipped, when winding knob back the pointer stops at 0.

6. I like Chris_B's idea of the band turning down and playing tricks.... I WISH those les paul/boogie damm guitarists would turn down a bit, apparently the volume pots on their amps cant be turned anti-clockwise!!!

Bloodaxe - I've tried 2 cables both with high quality 1/4" plugs - BUT I've tried them both into the same output, I could try the other speaker output on the amp. i dont think there are speakons on the amp (I'll look later)

The cab was 2nd hand when I got it and I've gigged with it twice a week for 3-4 months

7.
This is very common and is usually accompanied by increased wearing of slippers and smoking of pipes :)
welll I did buy some slippers about a month ago - my first pair since i was a kid....but they are comfy and keep my feet warm....

8. Hi -

I've got somrthing strange going on with my amp (SWR220 studio into schroeder212)

Until recently I've always gigged with the amp volume at just over half way but over the last month in nearly every gig I've been having to turn the volume down a bit during soundcheck and now its down to just under a quarter and it's only a 220watt head in a 5 piece classic rock band! I guess it's better than running out of headroom but I'm worried why its happening.... I dont have to fiddle with volume during a gig so it doesnt shift while playing. Apart from this I've never had any other issues with the amp.

I do the soundcheck so i know it's not someone who just thinks the bass is too lound
EQ on amp or bass hasnt changed, I only use one bass
Input level is the same as i always check the clip light JUST comes on when slapping pre-gig
Its not batteries as I do about half the gig in passive mode.
I'm not playing any harder (if anything a bit lighter due to the raised volume)
It's not the amp overheating (I guess that would drop output)
I've checked the ohms on the cab and it's not changed
Still using the same type of strings and have been through 3 sets since I've noticed the problem
I got the cab 2nd hand so it's not the speakers running in
it's not the speaker cable as I've tried 2 different ones.

I just adore the SWR220 and would jump under the nearest bus if it every packed up

is this something anyone else has experienced? Is it something I should be worried about? PS I cant afford to buy a backup right now....

Ta
Dave

9.
Unused 2 band audere preamp with Z switch. I've decided to rebody a Jazz neck onto a Precision, therefore I can't use this preamp. Excellent condition, and only the earth to solder too!

Will trade for a good quality Precision pickup and/or a decent Precision preamp (2 band only). If you have both I can add cash to the deal.

Can add lots of cash if you have an early 80s Fender pickup and preamp...

Will sell for £70 plus postage
Hi - does this have 2 volume pots or vol and blend??

10.
imo would look even better with a smaller scratch plate and a proper tele style chrome control plate rather than a telebass style setup.
I know what you meen - I've been mulling this over for a few weeks now, I love the std telecaster look with small scratchplate but for some reason I dont like the look when you enlarge the body to take a 34" scale!! I've looked at lots of pix of std tele style bases and they dont really do it for me but the thinline version does still look good when bigger (in my opinion)

I'll check out Nordstrand for custom pups! but I've just looked on wizards website and they look ok??????

11. IF I can sell my spare cab I'm going for a light coloured body and flame maple top with a waterbased blue stain done as a sunburst style thing, heavy stain on back and sides with light stain in middle of top. Pearl white scratchplate. If I cant sell the cab (genz benz 610 currently on ebay if anyone is interested) then its going to be ash/alder and a blue glitter paint. either wat it's for sure going to be a thinline style with hollows and f-hole cut into the top.

I know flame maple is a bit of a cliche these days but it does look good with a stain and I prefer the look compared to spalted etc

Pickups are a big question - I want an 18mm space (5 string) at the bridge and would like nordstrand big single pups but they only do 19mm and it bugs me when the pole pieces dont line up with the strings. I might go with 2 MM humbuckers (olp narrow spacing replacements) as shown in the plans as they look 'right' or possible a P at the neck and MM at the bridge. I do want a vintage warm deep punchy sound rather than the agressive bright in-your-face delano hybrid on my MM (which I adore for everything but country music).

I'd like suggestions on pickups!!

I've wanted a tele style bass for a while but cant stretch to an ASAT thinline, the Alden TV ones on ebay look ok but dont do 5 string and the pups look a bit naf. I know exactly what I want so the only way is to build one! I've built a couple of 6 string guitars quite a few years back which turned out good so I know what it takes.

I agree with the comments about the neck dive, either counterbalance or / and a good strap will overcome any problems.

Also if anyone has any wood they would like to sell.....

Thanks for the encouragement

Nugget

12. Hi - Just drawn up the plans for my new bass, i KNOW it's gonna have bad neck dive - I dont care, I just want to make it.
I'll update the post when I get cutting wood over Xmas holidays... Plans done to scale on cad so I can print out and use as a template.
I think it's gonna look cool especially as I'm now playing in a big country and western band.....

13. Q-tron pedal, a couple of minor scratches from giging but in perfect working order.
£40 + £5 delivery (or free collection from Worcrester).

"The Electro-Harmonix Q-Tron is compact stompbox featuring a downward filter sweep range that responds to a guitarist's picking nuances producing an almost wah-like effect. The Drive control sets the filter sweep sensitivity, while the Q sets the frequency peak of the filter. The Mode determines what frequency range the filter will pass through. It can be set to Low Pass (LP), Band Pass (BP) and High Pass (HP). Powered by AC adapter (included) or 9-volt battery. Made in the USA. Bootsy Collins and George Clinton already use Q-Tron. How about you?

Envelope controlled filters, like the Electro-Harmonix Q-Tron, are a unique type of effect where the the effect's intensity is controlled by the guitarist's playing dynamics. The volume, also know as the envelope, of an the incoming audio signal is used to control a swept filter. As the volume increases or decreases so does the pitch of the tone."

14.
If it was 6 ohm's I'd bite your hand off for it.
Yes - its a great cab, the definition and clarity is amazing but still warm with good low bass. Just does not really go with the new country and western project I've got involved with.....

Probably try it out on ebay this weekend as I've got mad plans for a 5 string telecaster bass build.
