1. Thanks, guys. I'm definitely looking forward to delving into the forums. Seems like a lot of cool stuff is going on over here!
2. Hi Sam Your PhD work sounds fascinating. I'd love to hear more about it. Are you composing new music that features electric bass or is your work more research-based? DrC
3. Hi Basschat community! This is my first time on the site and I'm really looking forward to digging into the threads here. I am teaching music theory and composition at Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY (alas, not teaching bass there...yet) and I'm always up for theory/analysis discussions of songs and bass lines. I write a monthly column for Bass Musician Magazine which features transcriptions and analysis, usually focusing on an individual bassist's playing style. Here's an article I wrote a couple months ago on Sir Paul's bass lines (actually the first part of a two-part article). http://bassmusicianmagazine.com/2012/05/the-melodic-bass-lines-of-paul-mccartney-by-rob-collier/ Anyway, just wanted to say hi. Hi! DrC
4. Hi all This is my first time posting on Basschat. I just wrote an article that was published in the August issue of Bass Musician Magazine about Sting's bass lines on the Police album, Ghost in the Machine. The article includes a transcription of every song on the record, with a short discussion of each bass line. It's a pretty interesting album from a bass perspective, as many of the songs are structured around short bass grooves that repeat through all or much of the song.
