1.
Hi

How about £475 and a brand new boxed EBS Microbass 11 PreAmp, collection on Friday late afternoon/evening?

    johnbiffa
Interesting... PM'd.
Looks like a lovely bass!
In some of the pictures, the strings look quite far over to the treble side of the neck, off centre as it were.
Is it just funny angles? Or a high action?, but looks off centre with the dots too!?

    Hey Si,

Now you've mentioned it the pictures do look a little odd but there's no problem in playing it, plays lovely on that neck - all the way up, all the way down.

  2. Hey guys,

Reluctantly, I'm having to put this up for sale to recover funds from my new purchase :) but this is a gorgeous bass and if you're looking for something Jazz-like with a lot of versatility then this is it. Really smooth vintage tones can be swapped for punchy modern slap at the twiddle of a knob.

So, it's a Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn Series 4 string bass. It's in a lovely "translucent" sunburst (rosewood fretboard) as can be seen in the pictures and is in excellent condition. I have used this bass with care and it has no battle-scars. It's always been kept in a hard case which I'll include (pictured).

First dibs go to anyone on Basschat but I'm afraid I'll have to eBay it if I get no takers. Just purchased something from someone on this site and it'd be nice to give something back to the community ;)

I'm looking for £700 but might consider offers... Drop me a PM if you're interested.

    Cheers,

    Si

  3. Realise that this was AAAGES ago but is this thread still relevant?

I like the look of this...

Is there any chance of this changing from a feeler to a for sale? Got a Lakland JO4 if you're interested in trade / part-trade.

PM me if you're interested... and even if you're not, PM with a price that you'd hypothetically sell for so I know what I'm looking at in the future.

    Cheers,
    Si

  4.
Sounds like we could do with a "Circle of 5ths" diagram to explain the key signatures (which leads us to the scales that go with them).

I think the "D# scale" mentioned is just adding to the confusion as there is no key of D#, only Eb.
In theory you can quite happily have the key of D#... sure it is Eb but it's a different way of thinking and I have come across it in an audition before.. it is just a shift in thinking. The circle of fifths eliminates the need for double-sharps but they certainly exist in music theory. Maybe it does confuse the matter but hey, I'll stick to my guns and may be shot down.

  5. It's just a matter of convention. If you were playing a Bb scale then you would call the root Bb but an A# scale you would call it A#... but these would still be sonically the same scale.

Maybe a better example is if asked to play the scale of D (D E F# G A B C# D) and then asked to play a D# scale... you would want to be doing stuff relative to the note that is actually named... hence the scale of D# (D# E# F## G# A# B# C## D#). It's actually quite good to think of things like this <in my opinion> as it keeps your mind working and keeps your theory on the ball and I think makes you more versatile... that is if you ever come across a song written in such a key :)

    Hope this helps > Si

  6.
I'd love to get a thin nitro finish on my P-special.

Anyone know anyone who does it?

I don't know anything of them but maybe they'll be of use. Is it a sunburst cos that's a bit more important to get done well?

  7. How's this one going? Have you gone back to V&R yet?

I think this is truly gorgeous and am also a massive fan of the vintage jazzes. Will definitely be looking to buy one when I have a bit more cash.

To be honest I would prefer it a bit more "vintage looking" not in a sacrilegious way but I like the character-building battle scars on vintage basses :)
