1. Sad, sad news - rest in peace, Si and thanks for all the laughs. My thoughts are with his family & friends right now & I will raise a glass. :)

Thanks for taking the trouble to post this, Rich.

  2. Good topic, initially it was Cliff - Aria basses, Boogie rig, awesome solos & met him in '86 in London. Then I went off the boil [as you do] and was handed my 'give up or play up' moments by Larry Boothroyd of Victims Family & Rob Wright of Nomeansno - utter bass geniuses the both of them.

  3. As it says, one of these, good nick, boxed & batteried, possibly the manual too, shed willing, if not, I'll print you one out. Good nick, lived on a pedalboard all it's life, no issues. Pics to follow.

£45 to your door / £40 collected unless you happen to have a Boss SYB-3 or 5 you don't want, in which case it will arrive with any previously negotiated pecuniary reimbursement snugly wrapped around it, like a little cash cardigan.

    Cheers, John.

  4.
Finally, this website is worthy of the legendary 'customer service' that PJ and Stuart are known for with the Spector brand.... :)
Good spot & share Gary. Big +1 for the customer service too, emails always answered promptly & comprehensively. Top marque!

  5. LH-1000 into Barefaced Big Juan. Had a problem that turned out to be a dodgy aftermarket valve. Simple & bastard loud when bridged into the Big Juan, great rig. It's not a Peavey Mark IV into a Sunn 215B, but it's lighter.

  6. Yup, Cliff innit. Take your pick.

    Or Brian Fox.

  7.
You bought an Ashdown for something more reliable ? Hahahaha... think of Ashdown as the bass equivalent of Alfa Romeo.
Easier to sell but not as easy to torch & claim on insurance for.
Does Alfa use Lucas Lighting? :)
Yup.

EDIT: Liking your book Bill

  8.
I know. That was my fruitless Saturday. Didn't even realise the one out towards the Aquarena had shut! Mind the new one in Warwick Street was the one that offered to order in a set at internet prices. I really ought to go back & support that one before it dies on the vine!!

BTW did you say you liked the Hartkes? I've two sets of the 50-135's that are too short for the new G&L fretless strung through body if you're interested
Guitar Junction? Not tried the Hartkes mate - tapered B? I should really file the Spectors bridge to get a normal one in there!

  9. Nowt in Worthing Al, except Rotos.

I have tried and failed to buy a whole bunch of varied things locally lately, trawled round the shops, failed every time and ended up purchasing from the internet. For example, I phoned a local guitar shop to see if they had what I wanted [aged white Strat knobs] - 'Yep, no problem', went to collect 'em - 'No, we don't have those - we can't carry everything, try Allparts on the web'. So I did. And will in the future. At least they sell Roto 4-string sets though. Great.

I wouldn't buy strings from anyone but Stringbusters now - fantastic service, great advice and they put a low B with a 4-set to cater for my odd requirements for no extra cost over a 5-set. :) 45-65-85-105- tapered 130 long scale D'Add nickels.

  10. Just changed the stock Jap ceramic for a high voltage Sprague Orange Drop poly and wow, the poly one is so much bigger. And orangeyer.

Early Gibsons and Fenders (50s - 60s) used 400v caps as they were left over from amp builds. Apparantly.
