Number of Musicians I have met who can't read music and have no real functioning concept of Musical theory but wish they did = 8000

Yup, got them for Birmingham; it took nearly an hour to get them. Can't wait to see him again. I've been a fan of his since the early days of Dirty Mind; but only first got to see him at the O2. That was the best big arena gig I've ever seen and obviously a lot different from the 3rd Eye Girl set up......looking forward to seeing the purple one rock out.

At O2 he started gig just coming on alone with his Hohner Tele, just noodling, like any of us might at home. The difference was Prince was noodling through sketches of some of the most innovatively crafted pop songs of the last 20-30 years, all of which he wrote. It was a great and very intimate way to start a giant arena gig and he somehow managed to maintain that intimacy throughout the 3 hour set, which indulged us in every configuration of his bands you can imagine. He even did a piano duet with Elton John!!!! Now I'm not a big fan of Elton, but Prince made it v cool.

Prince is probably the best musician, composer, arranger, producer in the pop field of the last 30 years IMO.....and as a guitarist he is frightening; I would so love to be able to play even a tenth as good as him.

yes he's a bad MF
hope you enjoy the gig

3. Guild Pilot came out in the 80's

Reissued by Fender Korea as DeArmond in late 90's early 2000's

original had Bartolini pick ups.

V versions where JJ, IV's P + J

fast neck, versatile gigging bass. The reissue V is serious bang for bucks. Excellent make/fit and B string is strong and 'in tune'.

4. there was a bass clef version when I was at Jazz School
here is link to latest(?) one

because I was pushed for time to learn sh*t the Bass Clef version I found easier. In treble clef as soon as it was above the stave I switch back to bass clef.

+1
I've never listened to him that much but whenever I've seen him on TV or YouTube he's been fantastic. I should also listen to him more.

Anyone have any suggestions of the best CDs or DVDs to start with, for someone who has none of his material?

Sign of the Times
probably the best record ever made by (predominantly) one person

The Rainbow Children
out there but deep grooves

Parade
Poptastic

Come
overlooked because it was in his difficult corporate era. Bland/Thompson are fierce.

Lovesexy/Black

Lovesexy is the commercial release, George Clinton in full effect
Black is Black but some serious Bass chops from Prince and Levi Searcer Jr

Avoid NPG, Rave2theJoy

Prince association , Wendy&Lisa. both probably geniuses
quite like Nikka Costa, light funk/pop
MadHouse or anything with Eric Leeds on

Sonny thompson....chic drummer?
no, that's Tony

Sonny is the bass player on 5-7 Prince records and used to give him guitar lessons way back in Minn
have tried one but considered it inferior to my MTD Grendel
still suspect the Kingston will be tops on bang for bucks

pretty much anything with Tobias on it is good IME
