1. Thanks for the welcomes - did all my intro then went quiet! Kendall - the Big Muff is pretty good and you can get some great sounds, but (like any FX I guess) take some time to get used to a 'dial in' a good tone. It basically can go from "is it actually doing anything?" to "Holy sh*t, what the hell is that god-awful noise?". But then, that second one tends to be the response of SWMBO when I'm playing! Personally, I have more fun playing with the Chorus pedal!
2. Not exactly overdoe it in this department! Westone Thunder 1A My first bass, I thought it was pretty good at the time. Bought for about £150 of a mate who had 'upgraded' to an Aria Pro II SB-700 Aria Pro II SB-700 From said mate who moved to a 70's Precision (he thought he was Sid Vicious). Loved this bass, should never have sold it! Bought for £100 (he needed the money). Then a few years later (around '94 IIRC) I needed the money so had to sell it. A guitar shop in Wolves (whose name I shall refrain from mentioning) told me it was worth no more than £40 - including a flight case! At the time I knew no better and, like I said, was in need of cash. Have since vowed never to set foot in that shop again (yes, they are still going). Ibanez SR-300 Latest bass, having decided to have another go at the ripe old age of 42. Just got a 'proper' set up doe on it (fret dress, the lot) and it's just great. Still hark back to that Aria and always on the lookout for an original '80s SB-1000........
3. Thanks for the welcomes! Dean; Agreed on the JT basslines - used to have most of the 'hits' nailed (except the breakdown in 'Rio' - could never quite do that!) but have had something like a 15 year break from playing. Only picked up the SR last year when my lad started playing guitar, so working my way back! I notice you have a Kubicki Factor - a nod to JT perchance? Beautiful bass - never seen it in that turquoise before. Think that may now be added to my wish list!
4. Hi everyone Just doing the polite thing and saying hi, having just 'enrolled' after being a long-time lurker! I'm an accountant in the day so my bass playing is my 'alter-ego' if you like. Been playing since the mid-eighties though nowhere near as good as that would suggest! Main influence at the time was John Taylor - still the case to a large extent, but can add Mike Dirnt and Chris Wolstehome to the list... Gear as it stands is an Ibanez SR300 and Marshall MB30 combo. Pedals are Bass Big Muff Pi and Boss Bass Chorus and looking to add a Boss equaliser to the collection plus whetver else I fancy that SWMBO allows.... One day I would like to own an Aria SB1000 - an original, not one of the re-issues currently showing up on the 'Bay....Ooh....and a Trace Elliot......
