First impressions are very favourable. I was drawn to it because the cab is deeper than the Compact and the sound seems to have both more depth and definition. It's a little heavier but I really like it.

Looking forward to the pair but have to be patient. I'll use the 2x15 for now (maybe).

So far every single amp purchase has been blind. In 1989 I spent almost 3k on my Bass 400 and two Diesel 2x15's and I was still using that set up until recently ( with one cab). I have never been let down by Boogie stuff.

Same with Fender basses actually. Of all those basses, I only actually tried the 1971 and 1966 before I bought them. The 1966 I discovered in a shop and the '71 because I had to collect it.

Never come unstuck in about 26 years.

Hi Geoff. Yes they have. I had hoped there wouldn't be a gap but I have my faithful Diesel 2x15 until the second cab turns up in February.

Picking up the first of two Boogie Subway 15's tomorrow and very excited. I will review when I have it and make a comparison to the Barefaced Compacts they are replacing.

Nothing wrong with the Barefaced cabs but I just like having only two names to have to spell for my signature!

Zoom H2 with the limiter set to Live 2 and you can't go wrong (at least I haven't. Never had any problems and can get very decent results out of it.

I believe there are some limitations if you rely on the battery - I recall some functions don't operate when it's being powered by the battery.

Obviously, but I'm assuming that you will be removing the blindfold at some point before getting in your car and driving home. I am agreeing that no-one would guess the era from the sound alone but, even then, people would tend to buy the more desirable variant. No-one actually tries a bass to buy it while blindfolded.

I don't think any of us would have any doubts as to the result of such a test. In reality, we consume with our eyes too and would naturally be drawn to the more expensive version if offred a choice.

I'd go for a s/h MIJ Fender. My last one cost about £500, including import costs etc, from Ishibashi.

You could have gone for the one I would have - Entwistle, does he overplay or what?

I thought of a compromise. Buy a JV Squier (that's right - Squier). Less than a grand, a good mix of excellent playability and some chance of increasing value. They come up on here regularly and there's a nice looking one on Classic and Cool at the moment.

If I'm honest, I'd say 'no'. If you are buying a bass to play then do just that. Don't concern yourself with it's year of manufacture or anything else. You will undoubtedly find an excellent playing Precision for around £1000 or less.

Paying that sort of money for a vintage bass is a false economy as you'll devalue it by it getting dinged as you use it. I have worn huge ruts in mine over the years and so it would never be worth the price of a mint one and you won't keep a mint one in mint condition by playing it.

I paid about £600 for each of my Japanese Precisions (including the slight mods) and they are superb players basses.

Any of you technical bods out there any thoughts on why there might be noise coming out of a speaker when the amp to which it's connected is on mute?

I don't imagine a speaker can generate noise on its own but I am wondering what the problm might be.

The speaker connections are speakons, in case that is significant (maybe a mismatch in the connections within the speakon cable).+

Just completed the deal, selling a Barefaced Compact to Markus.

Good comms and quick payment. You can't ask for more than that. I would have no hesitation in dealing with him again.

That is a lovely bass - and I say that as someone who doesn't get on with Jazz basses OR maple necks!

For me, it has to be '66 to '74. After then they became (generally) pretty heavy.

For what you want, I'd do as Gary says and buy a Japanese bass (get the alder one with US hardware) and change the pick-up.

Oh, my apologies, I had no idea at all. Mind you, you're describing the Jazz variant aren't you?

It'll be standard 34" scale.

These are great basses, very versatile and very light too.

Time for a price drop and I will sort out a Courier if required.

Just had the pleasure of Alan's company as he collected a Barefaced Compact from me. Thoroughly nice guy, pleasant chat and good comms throughout the deal.

This is why selling through Basschat is so worthwhile.

Time for a bump. A great cab in great condition.

If only to cover the 5x£20 in ad fees! :-)
