  1. Thats totally correct Doddy.
Gibson invested and cashed the money, Tobias made 'em during this time. When Gibson cashed the money and Gibson started making them theirselves than those basses lost their value.
The basses numbered upto 2044 were made by a team of wizards and are highly sought after.

  2. Hello Doki,

indeed she's awesome isn't she.. This bass is unique. You'll never find another because there are only 2044 made and 95% are naturally laquered showing awesome natural woodgrains.

Looking for an old Fender ? You'll find 50 in just a few hours surfing the net.. This Tobias is really jawbreaking exclusive.

But i have to dissapoint you, i'm not intrested in any trade..
...Unless its an american made MTD...

  3. This one has to go as well as i'm thinning my collection.
Here's serial number 2008 which was originally lined fretless. It has quilted maple wings and one of the fastest neck i've ever played. It has been fretted by a well known luthier in Belgium who did an amazing flawless job, the neck couldnt be removed to saw the lines and install the frets..
In mint condition, here she is, a hi-fi slapmonster nicknamed 'Shrek' made by the Legendary Tobias crew in California :

    price : 1750€ or 1525£ firm

  4. Thank you for the bump !

Why ? I guess most bassists associate the Tobias brand with most cheap Gibson rip offs. (though they have expensive rip-offs too).
Here's another peace of my art collection , ladies and gentleman.. Take a few seconds and look why there is a pre-gibson Tobias holy-grail legacy ..

Guess you aint never seen something like this this before :

  5. Bought this bass from a california studio where it was kept in the case just incase they needed a bass with a low B string. The studio did a large investment buying new instruments, the best they could find during the late eighties..
I was the one pushing the 'buy it now' button on this hardly played bass even ariving here with the original strings still on.

Want a '60 Fender investment-player ? guess you'll find 100 if you search the net a few hours..

Here's a very rare mint TOBIAS basic 5 serial 1519 (from only 2044 made), wenge-maple neck, walnut wings, original and hardly damaged Tobias case.

    price = 2500€

  6. During the rehearsel yesterday, the MTD proved (again) why i sold a Ken Smith and 5 Marleaux' ever since, i'll throw in my TOBIAS pre-gibson basic5.
The dark, nutcracking, agressive, alive, almost breathing' wenge necked MTD sound is beyond everything i ever played.
I've totally lost my motivation to play at the moment, don't know what is happening to me.. Guess i'm getting old :)
Sorry guys, withdrawn. Its just a damn pitty that it has only 21 frets.

A basic 5 anyone ? That bass also deserves to be played, it's just standing there (in new condition) being extremely rare
    and beautifull.
    New topic..

  7. I bought this in an impulsive mood..
Why ? because its an awesome bass. I'm 39 years old, played Fender since i was 14 years, owned about 10 during the years, played hundreds. This is one of the better Fenders i ever layed my hands on.
Not original nut, refretted, stripped, not original electronics, custom pick guard, ..
Totally f*cked up for the collector, but a true dream for a player, what a sound !!
As you see in the pictures there are 3 knobs. 1 volume p-element, 1 volume jj-element, 1 tone. If you pull the tone knob than the beast gets active. Truly amazing. The best of both worlds.
Fast neck, low action, asking 1090€ (thats what i payed)

    serial 502016
