1.
Thats fine but why would you usev a di box when there is a balanced output on the front of the amp.
I can see just as we have had bad experiences with bad soundguys, they've had bad experiences with bad bands. He might just prefer to use equipment he knows works for sure. They must have their idiosyncrasies as well as us.

This is not to say I have met some pretty incompetent soundguys. There was one who forgot to turn on the guitar and bass for the FOH speakers! :) Apparently talking to other soundguys, he has a reputation for "forgetting" to turn things on.

Sorry mate, I really disagree with you on this one. I find if you make the effort to be friendly to other bands, generally you enjoy the gig more. Some of my favourites gigs have been where there's a sense of camaraderie amongst the bands. and they'll be more likely to stay and see your set. Being nice can also extend your networking base, and they may have contacts themselves. As the saying goes, "Be nice to people on your way up because you meet them on your way down". For me, that also includes soundguys, no matter how rubbish they really are! They might actually be bothered if something messes up on stage.

  3.
I just think that, as musicians, we all know the hard work it takes to practice, get gigs, schlep gear to venues etc - surely that should give you some sense of camaraderie with other bands on the bill? Apparently not :)
Amen. In fact some of the most enjoyable gigs I've played are when the bands have all been friendly to each other.

  4.
Inexperienced musicians tend to concentrate on there own sound not the bands.
Keep in mind you can not accurately judge the true sound of a amp in a band context 3 feet in front of the speaker
+1. It is impossible for you to judge what sounds good for the audience from the stage.

If you're just doing gigs on the toilet circuit, you have little time to soundcheck. I believe anything to make the soundguy's job more easier can result in a better sound in general. So I always send him a DI signal before the pre-amp and use the minimum volume of backline I need. It may not be totally my sound, but I'd rather it sound half decent than it sound too loud or boomy or etc, from the audience's perspective. There is a big element of trust involved I guess.

  5. I messaged the guy with a link to the Squier product page. I just can't help think that he is being delibrately misleading because of the photos that he chose. They are seem to make the headstock tricky to view at first glance. I hope that I am wrong.

  6. DEAR MR MARK

Thank you very much for coming to the website. Please pay deposit of $1,000,000 American Dollars via Western Union to DR K SMITH. Thank you.

lol... just kidding. Welcome to the site mate! Hope to see some tasty porn pics of your basses soon.

  7.
Are you planning on using it with a bass specific preamp of some description?
Yep... that's the idea for me. I use a EBS MicroBass II into a Mark Bass Little Mark II as a poweramp (I prefer the sound of the EBS). As much as the LMII is pretty small, I thought bringing a whole amp with me on the London Underground on the way to gigs is a bit pointless. Having this will definately lighten the load on my back.

  8.
By who? BassGuitarMagazine?

Their reviews aren't worth the paper they're printed on. Far to keen to keep the manufacturers sweet. It really does them a disservice.
To be fair the review in BGM wasnt entirely positive. They rightly pointed out the major price increases meant that especially the Precision wasn't great value for money.

  9. If portability will be an issue for you, you might wanna take a look at this.

It's a small compact lightweight poweramp Alien (Andy) is making for me at the moment.
