1. Hi folks,

My band 'Apache Gunship' recorded our first single on Wednesday. It's called 'Unleash'.

Please give it a listen and comments are very much welcomed (good or bad). Intro is all bass so posting it here should be ok! ha

If you enjoy it please join us on twitter http://www.twitter.com/apachegunshipni and facebook http://www.facebook.com/apachegunship

Could the output of the pickups be too high for the tuner ? What happens if you select one pickup only, turn the volume down to zero and then just bring it up a little ?

I'll try that when I get home, although one of the tuners I'm refering to is the tuner that comes with amplitube through logic, the other is a korg. I have a 5 string with the same model of pickups in it (although it has no pre-amp) where there is no issue.

I'm bemused, will give your suggestion a go when I get home and report back!

  3. Hi guys,

I recently had a set of EMG 35DC's and a BQS pre-amp installed by a friend who is an electrical engineer.

All sounds fine and seemed to be working fine, untill I plugged into my tuner. Its jumping about between notes like crazy with seemingly no noise whatsoever coming from the guitar.

Happens on both tuners so its not a fault there, anyone got any ideas what this could be caused by?

  4. Ok cool, I'm not filled massively full of confidence that I'm gonna be able to pull this off from the responses so far! haha

Has anyone got any suggestions for specific loop pedals that may do the job of the above? I'm thinking I'll buy one anyways and see how it goes with the drummer, surely its like everything else and practice makes perfect right? lol

  5. Hi Guys,

I'm looking to get myself a loop pedal as my new band is a 3 peice and we have a lot of breakdowns and things that are bass layered over bass so to do these live I need one.

I don't need anything fancy just something that allows me to record a loop live, then record myself playing over the top, then record again with myself playing over the top of that. Probably up to about 5 layers would do. I don't need inbuilt drums or anything like that.

Also, a silly question. Say I have recorded a loop and then want to play over the top with a delay effect on my bass, once I hit the delay does that then add delay to the loop also? Or is there a way to bypass this?

    Cheers,

    Jamie

  6. It depends on what happened to the previous guy. If they kicked him out for not being inventive enough then they may love the sort of stuff your thinking of. If he walked away of his own accord then they may not. Either way I think what your suggesting sounds really cool, I know that in my band if we hired a new guitarist or new drummer I would like them to bring some new and interesting ideas to the table. We may not use them but I'd much rather they were suggested

The only strange thing about this is that most people tend to associate ESP witth the EMG pick-ups and this has Seymour Duncans which could detract from the overall ESP-ness of it.

Yeh I thought that myself, I've got no experience with Seymour Duncans for bass either!

  8. Hi Folks,

    Does anyone know much about these boyos;

I'm looking for a new bass, play in a thrash metal band, we are moderately progressive so I do alot of slapping, tapping sweeps and general high register stuff. I can't seem to find too many examples of the tone of this bass, I've tried the usual (youtube, google etc) but there doesn't seem to be too much about. Does anyone own one?

What attracted me to an ESP is that I already have one, it's an ESP F-204 and I love the playability of the thin fast neck, the sound is also pretty decent although I'm about to upgrade the pickups (also worried that by upgrading them I may well end up with a bass that sounds just like the above anyway).

My other choice is a Spector Euro 4lx, plenty of sound clips on Youtube. They sound awesome but I have never played a Spector.

I'm from Northern Ireland by the way the choice of high end bases over here is horrendous so its difficult for me to pop into a local music shop and play a few.

  9. And an old vid of my old band covering for whome the bell tolls (groan.................) listen to see if you can spots the bits where the singing drummer forgets the words!! haha

  13. Hi all,

My name is Jamie Mills. I've been playing for about 10 years now. I play mostly metal but have played in wedding cover bands and rock acts over the years too. My main infulences are Stu Hamm, Geezer Butler, Billy Sheehan, Ryan Martinie as well as many others. I also like to take influence from other instruments aside from bass.

Currently part of a metal band that is still in its very early stages, I'll post some stuff up when we have proper recordings!

I play an ESP F-204 which is my first ever bass, through university and travelling I haven't ever had the chance to get the money together to buy myself a new one, however I'm looking to get one in the next few months. Amp wise I play a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 head through its matching Uber 10 4 x 10 cab. I like messing with effects but I don't use them too often in songs.

I hope to release an all bass EP in the next few months which will be written and recorded (probably badly!) by myself.

Also set up a wee youtube page recently, have a look if you have a spare minute!

    Hope you enjoy!
