1.
Im a year older than you.

Thats not really relevant but the fact that I used to own the RB5 (older version of that amp) is. It was a cool amp, certainly sounded alrught but it severly lacked volume. It couldnt handle even the smallest of gigs by itself IME. Of course, if your bandmates play a harp and a flute you might be ok. A rock band? Forget it.

I upgraded from that to an Ashdown rig, a 410 combo with 115 cab. Beutiful amp, loved it. That too, is relevant as I sold the (mint cond.) 4x10 combo over a bass forum (not this one mind you) for exactly £300. Within your budget an would easily handle anything you could throw at it volume-wise.

Edit- where have you applied for uni?
atm bournemouth is the only one i want to go to, my back up is a foundation at weymouth college :/

i'm liking the look of the ashdown, will look second hand when i actually have the cash saved up.

  2. ohhh the ashdown does seem a lot more tempting, i do only have a £300ish budget, maybe can stretch to £400 if i work a lot more extra hours in the summer (first year of uni next year, hopefully XD) so i can't spend tooooo much on it.

  3. Well i'm gonna be looking into a mid range amp for band practices / playing small venues soon and was wondering how the Laney RB-7 performs.

I have heard some bad things about Laney but I'm not sure about validity of them ha.

and i can't afford much else :) pooooooooooor student bum ya know

  4.
Do your math first. Also the woodwork on the SX basses is a very deep amber/orange if you can live with that.

    Hamster
i'm fine with the orangey woodwork.

it looks like it'll come to £110ish + whatever they charge me on import tax, then possibly a replacement bridge, but i'll tackle that when i get to it.

  5. just reading all the rage about the SX series from rondomusic i'm very inclined to order an "SX SJB-62QMD BUS" instead of getting the VM jazz and just modding it, it'll probably work out cheaper :)

  6. I've been playting about 6 months now, mainly on this crappy wesley bass (not realy touching the 5 string til i feel i can utilise it to it's fullest, still a nice bass.) looking to get a new bass beggining of march, got about £200 - £250 to spend, and the VM jazz looks very nice, the wesley currently has a J pickup setup so i'm used to it, just wondering if i'd be better off trying a pector performer 4 and schecter stilletto extreme 4 first, i'm starting to get set on the jazz.

not been able to try any of them yet, gotta wait til i can get to SC in bristol.

  7.
i used the Line 6 albit on the Lowdown amp but i was very impressed with it. was gutted when the second crapped out on me (the amp that is). Was going to but the bass floor pod but started down the seperate pedal roots
yeah the line6 on gak was like £130, and on dolphin was about £180 :| do it looks like i'll be getting the zoom.
I have a card with the zoom patch numbers and descriptions on it. I stick it on the floor in front of th unit.
I only use about 9 so it's just neutral and 4 up and 4 down ... usually .. The more I'm using it the easer it is to remember where those pesky sounds are hiding ..

Meanwhile if you are still looking to buy a zoom B2.1u there's one here for £72 plus 6.50 P+P

thanks for that, saves me about £15 ;D

  8. Looking at ordering a Zoom b2.1u next week once i pay in this cheque, it's around£90 with shipping, is there any others i should look at before diving in and getting this? can't go over £90 really.

  9.
Hello Sam nice to meet you, I'm not far from Sherborne meself = just over the border in Somersetshire. Don't you be putting sad faces next to the Behringer bit of your gear young man! It's what's inside you that counts not the black hearted prejudice inside the minds of label snobs.
It's more that i want a Trace Elliot half stack badly after trying one haha :)

  10. been lurking for a couple of weeks now.

I'm Sam, from Dorset, been playing since August(ish), current a really bad Wesley hg-32 (apparently ;)) and an Ibanez GSR05 which needs a decent setup, I'm mainly playing my 4 string at the moment, but occasionally dabble on my Ibanez, playing through a Behringer BXL900 .

I mainly play sort of alt rock stuff like Porcupine Tree, Minus the Bear, RATM, Incubus, but i do love my metal as well, Carcass, At the Gates, Chimaira, Between the Buried and Me being some of my favourites.

and yes, i already GAS :)
