cheap basses under a thousand there isnt many good ones about ive just bought one of those stentor blonde rockabilly basses on thonman site they are listed at between 680 to 740 ish when i got it took the metal tailpeice off and the ajustable bridge set it up and boy they sound crap even with inovation strings the fingerboard is ebonized it has dips and highs down the fingerboard and if you skim the board you would have to take the plasticky ebonising off so onto the next project we have picked a primavera 50 up for 480 pounds and this is twice the bass build and tone remembering this is a cheaper bass retailing at 900 ish on ebay but a hell of alot better han these cheap rockabilly bass you cant beat an old german or czeck bass for rockabilly even if they are a bit beat up im sticking with my 37 kay
[/quote] stay away from these below 680 to 740 on certain sites offering them with inovation strings needs a gud bass to go with the strings

Very nice i agree, saw this on ebay.
Good price - decent lammy like that should be worth £900 or more, but that's the market at the moment.

There is another gorgeous blonde bass around, similar white (ivory?) tuners. Still for sale, still asking an awful lot more money!

those black lines are called purfling. They're designed to stop cracks and delamination spreading from the edges.

Still trying to put a number on the Kays in the UK (come on, show us yours! ... or did you already and I forgot?). A dozen, more?
I was talking to Thomas from Slap-strings.de yesterday ... he used to have 15 Kays! And 2 Mortones. And several Framus, and a bunch of other basses. drool...

it didnt come of ebay this bass that ive got

  7. fender tolex 40 quid of ebay grill cloth fender 10 quid ebay 1 tin sray glue 5 quid 2 hours later peavey tweed rig 750w head i wanted a vintage look to go with my bass i looked and aguila cabs were a grand so heres to diy

  8. i re coverd the head in fender tolex its a 750 w and made the 4x10 cab and coverd that for the vintage look what do you think fender grill cloth all from ebay cost £60 and a tin of spray glue for a fiver the trick is getting it to fit tight

  9. Ignore the black painted edges, these are not original and the front black stripe is graphic tape, under that is 2 thin black lines set into the wood, not painted on, its a 3/4, the tuning pegs are white fingerboard ebony, body is in fantastic condition, measures 8 inch across the side. I strung it with gut on d & g and innovation super silvers on e & a plugged in and wow lovely clean bass sound, deep and warm, the guy that had it owned it for 40yrs so we don't no original age i think Czech or German and no id badge or sticker anywhere inside. It is made of ply it sounds nearly as good as my kay just right up my street for rockabilly . Never seen one with white tuning pegs thanks paid £600 for it didnt even need to set string height was perfect for slapping

  10. them strings on ebay are made in india and you can get the same set for 40 pounds the d and g are ok the e and a are like tree trunks decent guts are 300 quid so leave them inovation super silvers will bring your bass alive 72 pounds on ebay lovely tone to each string

  11. I recently purchased a stentor blonde rockabilly bass for £680 it arrived packed up well and after unpacking we took the metal tailpeice off changed for ebony , then took the ajustable bridge off never liked these rather have full sound of strings going through the bridge. Restrung it with inovation super silvers tuned up and left it a couple of days to settle down E A D sounded ok ish G string buzzed rattled and no end of ajusting and moving the Bridge would shift it . The fingerboards on these are ebonized and have dips and rises like the welsh valleys. The build quality is shockingly bad i thought primavera blondes were a bit shoddy but these are like ply from the builders yard, what is used for smashed windows etc, the varnish was thin in places and thick in others, i would warn anyone who is considering one of these to stay away from them rather use a t chest bass than this, When plugged in with good pickups sounded just as bad no bottom end , so primavera is one of the better ones now in my eyes if you want a nicer tone and a better build try a primavera 50 the problem with internet basses is you cant try them so if this helps anyone with these basses then great im sticking to my 37 kay you would be better finding an old czek or german if you want a cheaper bass and doing it up
