1. Hi all, for sale is a custom made, slab body, crate top bass, modeled on the timeless grand-daddy of all electric bass guitars, the 50's P bass. As can be seen in the photos a nicely figured maple, one piece, mighty mite / fender licensed replacement neck for precision bass is fitted, unaltered, to the custom made body. The neck has a mighty mite stamp at the join with the body. Here's a link to the manufacturers website for this procuct : Http://www.mightymite.com/pbass-c-6_9/mm2907-p-61.html And on this page of their website you can see their licensing declaration : Http://www.mightymite.com/pbass-c-6_9/ The volume & tone knobs, machines, string tree, output and wiring (250k pots and .47 cap) are generic copies of the original and all work reliably and as expected. The bridge is a rather good heavy duty item and fully adjustable for intonation and string height. It's of higher quality than would have been fitted to the original 50's instruments, and looks good on this bass. Pickup is a di-marzio dp122 for precision bass. Here's a link to the manufacturers website : Http://www.dimarzio.com/pickups/bass/standard-bass/dimarzio-model-p This is a loud p-up, rather like a precision on steroids. The neck joint is snug and has no packing or spacers so it's full wood to wood contact and, in conjunction with the bone nut and upgraded bridge produces a tight acoustic (i.e. When not connected to an amp) tone. The main feature of this bass is the Tizer crate top, the photos show I've included three features 3/- (three shillings) adjacent to the controls, plus : Hardun & sons, middlesex and 8-59 (a date stamp - august 1959) These are on the top horn. The timber the crate top is set on is american ash and the weight of the combined, shaped woods is good. It feels substantial but not heavy and it has no neck dive. The finish of the ash backing is matte, while the crate top is semi-gloss/satin. The wear and faults in the original crate have been retained as much as possible, that being the point, plus there’s a bit of thumb nail wear in the normal place just above the pickup. The bass is set up with Elite 45-105’s with a killer action and sounds fantastic. My asking price reflects the cost of bought parts/materials, plus labour cost of manufacture from scratch of the body, plus general construction and setup. The bass is in Kent UK Any questions please call lee on 07427244544
