The performance of these two cabs is amazing, and really provided an immense platform on which the guitar was able to work really well. Additionally, the sound I had didn`t get in the way of the guitar - as said earlier these cabs don`t have tweeters, so no high frequencies, plus, I like old roundwound Rotos, so no "zingyness". A nice rounded bass sound. Now I know what they mean on Talkbass when they talk of a sound "like molasses". So, Fender Precision, old roundwound Rotos, Ampeg head, into Barefaced Compact/Midget. This set-up gives me the old-school bass sound that I want. The Barefaced cabs just put out what you put into them, and don`t seem to colour the sound at all. Which for me is great, as they push out that Fender/Roto/Ampeg sound which I love.
Lozz, you sound like you're a man after my own tone. I've got the P-bass and the PF-500 but not the barefaced. Whatdya reckon, could you get this kind of sound out of those cabs? Specifically the Compact http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljMbG1RoHRc - wait for the verse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljMbG1RoHRc - 24 secs but then, will it do this??? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f39Zs0gB87c p.s. of course I know I should be asking Mr. Claber, I'm doing that too!

Here is my 2004-2005 Fuji-gen plant Geddy Lee. It served me well in the early days but has been pushed to the back of my collection and hasn't been used for at least a year. I haven't played another bass that sounds so close to what it's mimicking (Geddy Lee) and has the thinnest neck of any bass I've used. I'm selling for no other reason than the sound it makes is not what I'm after. I'm sure must of you know all about this bass, but if not have a look here: http://www.fender.co...rtno=0257702306 or here for the specs: Body: Alder, (Polyurethane Finish) Neck: 1-Piece Maple, Thin 'C' Shape, (Gloss Polyurethane Finish) Fingerboard: Maple No. of Frets: 20 Medium Jumbo Frets Pickups: 2 Vintage Jazz Bass Single-Coil Pickups Controls: Volume 1. It's been gigged and knocked about a bit. I've done my best to show the biggest faults, it is worth noting that there are a few other slight dings - mainly in the back - that won't show up on the camera as they haven't broken the varnish. Finally, trade-wise, I'm pretty specific; if anyone has a Sunburst American Vintage '62 Jazz or a Barefaced Big Baby or Big One then count me in! Thanks, Tom

Hi Geoff, Glad you understand, has anybody found their perfect sound??! And if the head didn't come with attachments then of course you can have mine. As for the Midget, please tell me it's a T!? And to further make my evening, has it also got a silver grill?? I think; if the answer is no to both questions then I will have to regretfully decline. To be honest I'm not too sure which barefaced I'm after but I definitely want some kind of tweeter! Maybe a compact and midget T, Super Twelve, Big One (yes I know not quite a T ) or Big Baby. Does the prospect of a swap affect your decision? -

Hi Geoff, Nope not daft questions, fully understandable. The attachments and casters are all there, I think they may actually come with the head but I've not problem including them. Secondly, I'm selling it because it's just not quite the sound I'm after. There's no issues, just issues in my head! It's very good at what it does but I'm very (very) fussy and it's just not the sound I'm after in my head. So, when I'd decided that it didn't have that particular sound I tried to take it back, and now I've ended up here! Hope that answers it for you! Tom -

Due to Wembley Guitar Centre’s ridiculous 7 days return policy, I’m being forced to sell this privately. They didn’t explain the policy at the time and so it was only when it was too late that I found out. This cab can only be described as brand new, it has been taken from the shop floor straight to my house, sat on a stool and has never been gigged, hardly been used and today is it’s 3 week birthday! There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it (in fact I challenge you to find something wrong with it, I could take it back then!), there’s no back of the lorry stuff going on here, just bad refunds-policy-research on my part Vintage Portaflex flip-top cabinet design • Black diamond tolex • Vintage B-15 grille cloth • Rugged 15mm poplar ply enclosure · 450W RMS power handling @ 8 ohms · 1 x 15˝ ceramic Eminence® LF driver · 1˝ HF compression driver w/L-Pad level control · Frequency response: 44 Hz – 17 kHz · Sensitivity: 99.5 dB SPL @ 1w/1m · Dimensions (H x W x D inches): 23 x 21 x 14 · Handling weight: 45 lbs / 20.4 kg Pickup from Reading, Berkshire. Ampeg Pf-115he OR Barefaced??
IMO nothing sounds as good as an Ampeg cab.
And there's our first vote for an Ampeg! -
Ampeg Pf-115he OR Barefaced??
Thats nice to read, especially as I`m picking up a Compact tomorrow, to be paired with my PF-500
Soooo.... how does it sound Lozz???
Barefaced. Can't rate them enough. But you'll struggle to find a used one, midgets rarely come up and usually don't last long. Compacts, it's usually the older ones that come up which are little heavier in IMO look a little ugly. The super twelve is by far the best of the modular range. Being the lowest and loudest, will having very nice mids.
Would that be a vote for the Super Twelve? I'm considering that or a Compact with a possible Midget addition later. I've emailed Alex with a few YouTube clips but am interested to hear everyones thoughts. -
Ampeg Pf-115he OR Barefaced??
replied to 's topic in Amps and Cabs
Right, all understood. I've even read this paragraph on the barefaced compact website What about a tweeter? If you just want a nice clear sound, with some treble bite when you pop a note and enough brightness to always hear the details of your playing then this cab does all that without the cost, weight and complexity of a good tweeter system or without the numerous sonic downsides of cheaper and less well designed tweeters. If you like the extended highs of a high quality tweeter then we recommend our Midget T or Super Twelve T as adding a tweeter to the Compact would cause inconsistent polar response due to the mellower off-axis response of the Compact's larger woofer. But I can't help but notice the Super Twelve... Either way, am I assuming the consensus is return the Ampeg? -
Ampeg Pf-115he OR Barefaced??
replied to 's topic in Amps and Cabs
I know!! Should I be tempted? I was actually hoping for one with a tweeter. Are you voting for the bassfaced?? -
Ok, here's an interesting one for ya'll... I've just - as in last week - bought myself a pf-500 with pf-115he head, I'm pretty happy with it. Don't have too many complaints. The head is nice and loud, the cab is warm and able to produce the lows that I'm after... HOWEVER I noticed these amazing beasts made by Barefaced today. They look awesome, have lows, solid ones at that and from what I can gather, have a very big sound. All of these things; I'm after! So, my question is... what do I do??!? Should I stick (with my Ampeg cab) or twist (and get a barefaced compact) and take my Ampeg back for a refund. Price is a consideration, I might be looking at some kind of used Barefaced. All opinions, thoughts and hints are welcomed

Those of you who have been paying keen attention may have noticed I put out a feeler for this. Well here's the real deal, I've got a new amp so it's gotta go, first dibs to go to basschatters, evil bay will be next, sooo... RMS Power Output: 220-Watts LF Driver: 1 x 15" Speaker HF Driver: 1" Compression Driver with Level Preamp: Tube (1 x 12AU7) Power Amp: Solid-State Tone Controls: 3-Band EQ Mid Tone Control: Style Balanced Line Out: Yes Dimensions (W x H x D inches): 21 x 21 x 16 Weight: 80 Pounds Built-in Tuner Mute Switch CD Input Headphone Output As mentioned in the title it's had very, very little use. Cosmetically I'd be very impressed if you could find so much as a nick or scratch anywhere. It's been to about 5 gigs in it's 2 year lifespan and otherwise has only been used as an amp for teaching, so has been kept at very low volumes. For the gigs it's been to - London venues such as Borderline, Wheelbarrow etc - it's had more than enough volume to cope with a full band and pretty hard hitting drummer. It's also got rather a lot of low end you can dial in, probably due to the ports on the back as well as it's depth. Though don't forget that adjustable tweeter for some extra sizzle! With all of the above in mind I'd be looking for a price of £300 I would prefer collection from Reading, Berkshire but could meet half way within reason for a fee. ...and if anyone has a Barefaced cab, I'd also be interested in a swap Thanks, Tom

Ok, ok, ok... I want one! Where's the cheapest at the moment? And having not tried one out, I'd like to do that too if possible, who knows what shops have them on the shop floor? Thanks guys
