Got a set of the green ones on at the moment and have had no issues with the coating coming off or the tone. I only use fingers and have had them on for a good few months. Look really cool under most lighting.

Saw you guys at the newcastle 02 academy a few years ago I think (was a tribute band night with the Rawmones and the Reet hot chilli peppers), was a great gig and you guys sounded awesome. Sucks that your singer quit, hope you find someone again soon!

+1 for downcast, really good rehearsel room with a really friendly owner. They also do recording too if I remember rightly.

Did gigs for them twice and both times the promoter turned up and set the gig up but then left soon after and saw no sight of him the rest of the night, until he came to collect the money for the tickets we sold of course. There was also no "promoting" as such, didnt see any flyers or anything just a facebook page.

Not having a go at the promoter and it has been almost 2 years since I last played a gig with them so they may have changed, but it wasn't the best.

I never lend gear out now and luckily my current band understand and respect my decision.

Hey dude I was in your position about 1 year ago. Doing the same kind of gigs in the same area and the amount of times I would turn up to a gig like this and because I had decent gear, the promoter would just assume that I was going to let all the other bands use it.

I don't like lending gear out as I don't like the idea of using someone elses gear and it breaking, but my band at the time were really forceful like your guitarist is ("Just lend it this once") and it would happen frequently. Its not a great feeling and if I was you I would stand your ground and stick to your guns.

Used to always do those kind of gigs at the three tuns in Gateshead, always a really weird mish mash of different genres and you would just end up playing to the few friends you had brought down and the bar staff.

Welcome to the forum. Its never to late to become a wielder of the low end warrior.

My 2 active basses don't have a passive switch, so can't be that common ^_^

I am reluctantly selling my Trace Elliot 1x15 cab. This cab has served me well for the last couple of years, but as it is an old Trace Elliot cab it does weigh a bit and I have now purchased a combo. Drummer wanted for Alkaline Trio tribute band. We are looking for a drummer to complete our lineup and get things rolling.

We are all aged between 20-30 but age isn't an issue for us. We all have around 8+years experience and some gigging experience in previous bands.

It depends what you need the amp for? Do you just practice in the house or do you play in a band?

If you are just practicing in the house and you are reasonably happy with the sound you get out of it then I wouldn't spend money on a new amp. It really depends if you plan on joining a band/gigging. If you don't like the sound you get out of it or you are planning to join a band etc then you could always go for a new one. I had a cheap practice amp for quite a few years before I bought a better amp. That was only because I joined a band and started gigging.

+1 to this, although putting forward a few ideas once established isn't such a bad idea.

Seeing as I don't drive, getting home usually involves getting a taxi while to trying to explain what kind of music I play to the taxi driver who is trying to make small talk. These days I have just given up trying to explain and just say "heavy metal".

What do you guys make of this? Never really heard of shine basses before.

I still have my first bass, an encore p bass copy. The action was way too high and it didnt sound particularly good but it was a start. Its covered in stickers and the input jack needs fixing so its not really playable.

The one with the most sharp points as it can be used as self defence during those more hostile gigs.

But on a serious note I am definitely in the camp of it has to look reasonably nice before I even try it. I am not too fussed on colour as long as its not bright pink.

When I first started I tended to try basses that were used by my favourite artists, not the exact bass but the same brand. Thats how I ended up with an Ibanez as Korn was my favourite band at that time.
