It would be interesting if you could buy one physical pedal, ie the ADAM of the photon, and then be able to buy firmware/software packages from Darkglass, which you could then change in the Darkglass suite

Yeah, this is what I'm talking about. People who really want both to use together would still buy both, you'd just have an additional layer of flexibility from each one (at a cost, obviously).

If they did they they’d never sell any to ADAM owners.

As a current ADAM owner I won't be buying one either way though. Can't speak for everyone in my position of course, but I don't think it would be too far removed from their current model of offering multiple versions of the same drive with expanded functionality to suit different budgets and purposes. If the argument that they're not just trying to be 'the iPhone of effects pedals' holds any water, that is.

I don't think they are trying to be that,  but even so, they are still masters of generating FOMO. So regardless, I doubt it will ever happen.

  3. I'll be interested if they release it as an alternative firmware option for existing ADAM owners. I'd happily pay something for that as an upgrade. Seems very unlikely though.

If this all-digital 5 knob/3 rotary switch format is going to expand with similar B7K and VMT style versions in future iterations, maybe someone will figure out a way to hack them for cross-compatibility or custom firmwares in general.

  4. Love my Alpha Omega and M900, but like others in here the Dingwall + ultra-clean distortion isn't really my vibe. I like having a bit more hair around the edges, which the A/O and VMT already provide very well.

Still keen to hear more from this though - I'm sure it's capable of a lot more than what we're seeing so far, even if it's probably not gonna be a must-have for me personally.

  5. I'm a self-confessed Darkglass junkie, and I love the concept of the whole multiband approach they're going for with this - it's something I've been doing myself in the studio for quite some time. However, from the demos I've seen so far I'm not really feeling the tone of the drive that they've gone for with this one. More than happy with my AO and the drive options in the M900. Think I'll be giving this one a miss, but I hope it does well and leads to some other variations.

  6. Strings Direct have them right here:

I don't think D'Addario make the .145's in taperwound though.

    Absolutely said in humour.

Although you wouldn't expect to get a left-handed piano, would you? :) (EDIT: I see I was beaten to the punch with this one, at least twice. Should have expected that really).

  9. Fingers. I used a pick for the first 12 months or so of playing, and eventually reached a point where I just hit a brick wall with it and found it really hard to make any progress. Switched to fingers and hardly looked back since, although I still kind of wish I could be proficient with a pick for a few certain things. I've picked it up again a few times since, but I've never quite been able to get the knack of it. Always feels unnatural.

  10. As a recent Barefaced customer, I can assure you that Alex is more than helpful, and without going into too much detail he takes going the extra mile to another level entirely. Basically, I wouldn't worry too much - he's probably just busy. :) Still, no harm in giving him another nudge via the email to remind him if it's been more than a week or two.
If you're new to FX, then a multi fx unit is your best starting point so you can find out what fx does what & saves buying a couple of funky looking bricks. Once you know what's what then single pedals all the way (tho there's some very good multis that I'd have.
This is a very good point, to be fair.

The main thing I dislike is that any multi FX units I've tried have had a negative effect on my tone when I'm not using them. I also usually find the pedals to be too close together, and in a high energy live environment I'd end up stepping on two at a time by mistake.

Not an issue if you have a tuner out jack on your amp though.
