  1. @ Gareth - My first time to the picnic myself so should be fun once we don't get too carried away!! Backline is provided for our slot on the trenchtown stage so no hefting this time. I'll check out Gavin's new album now that you've reminded me tonight for sure. @Acid bass - Cheers fella stay in touch re: gigs etc. It's great to have a few fellas this side of the pond to bounce ideas off, pedal gear from/to. I'll keep my eyes open for ya. I'm digging my Ampeg at the moment - plenty of round fat low end for trouser shaking basslines.
  2. Cheers Andrew, we're at the picnic this year too on the trenchtown stage if your about. Where are you based yourself?
  3. Hi Folks, hope all is good out there in the world of cyberbass. I hope to pick your collective minds on certain issues in the near future. A little about my gear and band - Bass: 1994 Fender Jazz MIJ (bought from new in Cork city and the bass I'll never sell) Amp: 1988 Ampeg SVT 2 with 4x10 and 1x15 Band: Karma Parking - a ska/reggae/rock originals band based in Ireland Gear I've owed/still own but broken etc.: GK 700rb with 410SBX (okay amp but let me down mid gig recently and not suited to live dub reggae). Demeter vtbp-201 preamp with mackie m1400 power amp through a peavey 410 and 210 (again okay but those mackie amps never liked being moved around and died a couple times). I recently used an mb200 through my old peavey 2x10 cab which I was delighted with as it had far more low end than my full 700rb plus 410sbx!!! Ciao Basic
  4. Hi Bassfolks I'm hoping to tap into the vast collective knowledge of BassChat. I am hoping to use a Demeter VTBP-201 tube preamp (circa 1997) with my GK SBX 410 and I'm trying to figure out which power amp to use that won't cost the earth. Also; I used a Mark Bass head (can't recall which model) with the GK Cab for one gig and it was streets better sounding than my old GK 700rb (which is now dead awaiting repair) especially for my bands ska/funk/reggae sound. Having read rave reviews about the GK sound I'm wondering what all the fuss was about given the performance of the MarkBass!!! Any suggestions for a new bass head (MarkBass or otherwise) that could give me plenty of warmth and low end that the GK just doesn't seem to achieve. And oh yeah: it can't cost more than £500-£600 roughly as the van needs a new gearbox (why does everything break at once?) Kind Regards Basic Sums P.S. A big hello to all you fellow low end lovers out there. P.P.S I don't ask for much in my first post do I?
