1. I have a P-Bass that Beedster put together. Sports a Mighty Mite neck and it's fantastic. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=10907
Good luck with finding a supplier. :)

  2. yeh, cheers cheddatom... I'm looking forward to hearing what my clean patches (that i've got sounding Sweet through headphones - really digging the SWR model with beef'd cab!) sound like when plugged in to my amp (i live in manchester and my amp lives in london). wondering whether i'll end up setting the eq on the zoom or the amp - hmm, guess i just have to test to see which sounds better... a mix of the two perhaps?! i dunno, not gonna get to try for another few weeks but if more zoom threads come up after, i'll contribute and share my findings. cheers, sparky. :)

  3. Cheers guys. To be honest, I just bought the zoom because it was cheaper than a boss tuner!!!... and thought it'd be handy to have a couple of channels for a little extra kick when I need it... I'm probably not going to be using the DI straight from the zoom - should be ok from my amp. I'm yet to test the zoom at volume with my rig yet, just through headphones - so I'll see what my 'clean' patches I've programed sound like when I plug in and turn up and then consider the bypass options. Cheers for the tips Kev. Appreciated. Sparky :)

  4.
if you want to bypass the zoom, you step on both switches at once

you cant have a' true bypass patch'

and as far as i know, the B2 is far from true bypass even when bypassed fully
OK. Thanks Kev. That's a shame - can't really rely on being able to hit both switches at once mid song - it's ok bypassing for the tuner between songs but during, i guess i just need create a patch with a 'simulated natural' sound... hmmm, 'll have to work on that!

Thanks for the tip mate. Sparky.

  5. Hi all,

Just bought myself a zoom B2 in the local music shop's sale. Am getting to grips with it quickly but just wondered if any of you knew if you could set a patch as true bypass... as opposed to a 'clean' patch (everything set to oF)? not entirely convinced that with everything set to off ('oF'), it's bypassing the zoom unit 100%.

any ideas? i've read a lot of the posts commenting on only being able to select the adjacent patch on the zoom and am following the advice of many - programming alternate patches with a 'clean'/bypass patch between each.

  6.
Ok. How are you with a crosshead screwdriver, a soldering iron and a multimeter?

    Hamster
Oh Dear! I'm 'average to good' with a screwdriver, 'school-years novice' with a soldering iron and I don't even know what a multimeter is!!! (but I rekon I could get hold of the equipment if i needed it)
Was thinking though - when I tested the J last night, I plugged in my P straight after and the volume was actually Less - so maybe the signal isn't as weak as I thought but like I said in the original post - it just lacks 'presence'. not sure how to describe it - the volume's there but it seems to lack 'body'... not refering to the tone either - i realise the P and the J will of course sound different but I've played a newer Jazz, and in comparisson, mine sounded notably 'dull'. as if the sound's coming from next-door.. compared to the P which sounds like it's in the same room - like it should!
    Thanks for your time Hampster

  7. Hi Hampster, tested the bass - nope, the signal from the pickups is not affected by the tone control. Tested both pickups seperately and together at max volume and there is no drop in strength. Crackles a wee bit when turning the controls, but that's normal isn't it? Cheers, Sparky.

  8.
When you play through the Jazz with the volume control at max, does the signal weaken or vanish for either pickup when you turn down the tone control ?

    Hamster
Woah, there's a question. I'll test it when I get home and let you know. Sounds like a leading question - finger's crossed!

  9. Greetings All,

I bought my Jazz Bass new in 1996 and for years have felt that the output lacked presence. Recently, my suspicions have been confirmed by my purchase of a new P bass and the awesome sound it puts out. I guess the problem may be to do with the pickups, but before I go splashing out on new hardware, I was just wondering if anyone could suggest any alternative causes of low/poor/weak output from this type of bass and methods for testing.

If the most likely cause is that the pickups are the problem, can anyone suggest some good replacement models that I could fit easily (I have hardly Any technical knowledge of my bass and its workings) and some rough costs.

    Cheers peeps.

    Sparky :)

EDIT: Also, does anyone know if the machine head screw positions are standard on this? If I buy a set of Gotoh Machine heads like this (the GB-4N's), how likely is it they'll fit without having to re-drill? My e-string tuner is loose (the peg moves before it turns the cog - pretty sure it's not something that I can fix by tightening screws).

:) cheers steve mate! ya, i saw you were selling the 4.5 and now you're not?! what's the story?! 700W too much for the one cab? the one cab too much for the one flight of stairs?! teehee - eek!

  11. Not that he needs it, but here's some feedback for Mr.B. I picked up a beautiful Precision bass from Chris on Christmas Eve. I'd put my name down for it 2 or 3 weeks prior to pickup but living at opposite ends of the country, the transaction had to wait. During this period, I subjected Beedster to persistent badgering - seriously, I was so excited I just couldn't help myself - I was PM'ing him day and night, quizzing him about the guitar, maintenance, all that craic! anyway, Chris was a complete gent and put up with it. Right from the beginning of the sale, he was straight up about what he was selling and after explaining that i was a novice buyer, even suggested that this may not be the right buy for me - it's a custom build, may not be as easy to sell on, may not appreciate as well as a Fender yada yada yada... but alas, he didn't succeed in talking himself out of a sale. I've had the guitar a few weeks now and am chuffed to bits with it. This is feedback not only for Beedster the seller, but also Beedster the bass guitar craftsman. The Beedster Sig. P Mk.I rocks - it plays beautifully and the sound is as pure and honest as you'd want from any P. When he was re-assembling the guitar after wiring in the controls he gave me choice and advice about which pickup to have installed, which bridge and even what type of strings... in the end he gave me TWO sets - just to encourage me to try flats! A very generous and sound gesture. Yes yes, if you're planning to buy from Beedster, I'm sure it'll be a pleasant experience. So, there you go.. here's a link to the BassPorn thread for the forementioned P. Wollop!

  12. OK, here's my mini collection so far. Two Fender shapes plus a link to my previous post showing my Martin acoustic: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=8238

First up, a superb Precision specimen: "Beedster Sig. P Mk. I" - Lovingly crafted by BassChat's very own C.Beedster Esq. Picked it up from Chris on Christmas Eve after weeks of anticipation - I've wanted a natural/maple P for years and when this one came up I jumped at it. Beautiful ash body from ESP (sanded & oiled by Beedster), fantastic, chunky Precision neck from Mighty Mite and boasting a Seymore Duncan SPB2 & Badass I, this bass sounds the absolute nuts. I wanted a bass that I couldn't walk past without picking up and twanging and Beedster delivered just that. Sweet as.

...and second, my MIJ '62 RI Fender Jazz. Bought new in '96, this has been my trusted work-horse since I bought it. Needs a good setup and I'm considering some new hardware for it - suspect the pickups are knackered and may upgrade the bridge also... we'll see... anyway, some pics for now...

  13.
2007 saw my first foray into the forum world of Basschat - by all accounts a great discovery
+1. Before 2007 I'd never taken an interest in my equipment - I've been playing bass for the best part of 12 years. Needed to change my rig for logistical reasons and joined basschat for some advice. Since then I've discovered a whole word I never knew existed and also, have been introduced to the phenomenon of GAS. This disrupted my sleep for a few weeks but after a recent spend, I think it's under control! :) I've managed to sort out my rig and am now the proud owner of a Beedster Sig P which I'm chuffed to bits with (pics to follow in bassporn next week). Am planning on spending some time setting up and experimenting with the workings of both my basses and have started playing more at home - the improvement is audiable. Thank you basschat - may 2008 see many more MODERATE bouts of GAS and all the pleasures that ensue for everyone here on the forum. Word Up, Peace Out. Sparky

  14.
Do you know if its louder than another Hartke? The reason I ask is that the fan on my 3500 was always noisy, to the point where it couldn't be used for recording if there was anything miked up in the same room.

    Cheers,
    Alun
+1 on that - my 3500's fan is noisy... and it gurgles.. and it hisses unless i turn off the eq... hmm, oh well - at the volumes i use it at (matching up to a loud drummer), none of that matters.. i don't use it in the house.
