Thats a cool rig Sparky... I'm seriously considering the BC212, just cant decide between the micro heads to drive it.... GK MB500, Ampeg PF-500 or the TC BH500 which is in the same price range but is no micro at 30lbs... otherwise a used RH450 or Classic 450... I have a Markbass LMII but I fancy a tone change and will keep it as a backup for the time being... It might work well with the BC212 though.. :)
Good luck with this. If my budget would have stretched that bit further I would have gone for the LMII so I'd be interested to hear how you get on with the bc212/LMII combination. Cheers

  2. I'm using an Ampeg PF-350 with one bc212 so only getting 250w out the head. I play with a hard hitting drummer, guitarist and three singers all matching the drummer's volume at rehearsals. I'm finding my setup loud enough to keep up. The tone of the 12's is great too - especially for the money.

  3.
Anyone own/tried these out? I'm looking at the 212, seems good for the money!
I've just bought a second hand TC Electronics BC212 off Moos3h and I'm diggin' it so far. It's only 250w mind you (compared to the 600w GK). And they don't do a 4ohm version. Whether it's an option depends on what you need it for I guess.. At 8ohm I'm only getting 250w out of my amp, but even so, the setup is loud enough to keep up with a hard hitting drummer, guitarist and 3 singers.. with a really nice tone too... Be interested to hear a review if you do end up getting the GK though... Easy

  4. Hi All,

Without even meaning to, I've ended up changing my entire setup!... So up for sale is my Hartke '210XL' 2x10 cab which has served me reliably since I've owned it. The cab is very compact, not too heavy and is in very good condition (Pics to follow later this week). Sounds great on its own for small gigs or paired up with another cab for louder shows. 8Ohm, 200W.

    Manufacturer's tech info here: http://www.samsontech.com/products/product...8&brandID=3

Looking for £100 collected from hemel (or meet up somewhere near). Pics to follow.

    Thanks for looking,

    Sparky. :)

EDIT: Photos as promised... Marks on the grill aren't as noticable as they look in the pics. Just one tiny nick out of the carpet on the back 2/3 the size of a 5p piece. Slight scuffing on plastic corner protectors. Not immaculate, but still - very good condition (cosmetically) for a used cab... and functions perfectly. Bangin'! :)

  5. Picked up a lovely 2x12 cab from James today. Diggin' it so far! Great guy to deal with - good communications - very helpful and sorted me out a speakon-jack adaptor till I get a proper cable sorted! Many thanks James. All the best. Sparky.

  6. Bought my Trace cab off me! Very good to deal with - efficient and straight up - transfered money as soon as we agreed the sale and then ordered a courier for a day that suited me. All round good experience.

  7. I was / still am considering this as a compact head option. Just noticed it only has one speaker output though. Whichever head I end up going for, I'd like to be able to use either one Or two cabs depending on situation (without an additional power amp - as the original poster is planning). Speakon to 2No. jack cable - Does that exist?? If not, I'm guessing one would require a 4Ohm cab to make full use of the MB200... Hmmm??

  8. Sold my Hartke 3500 to Steve. Did the deal last night. Only done it a few times, but these car-park transactions always make me laugh :)
Great buyer. Kicked off correspondence with 'I'll have it' and then stayed true to his word, no messing. Nice to meet you Steve.

    Sparky.

  9. Hi All,

Hoping to change up for something a little more compact so up for grabs are these two PROPA SOLID bits of kit!

**AMP SOLD** First up - My trusted Hartke 3500 head (with old-school metal flight case). 350W@4Ohms, 250W@8Ohms.
Amp has been gigged but looked after - flight cased the whole time. Only one minor issue with functionality - Passive input doesn't work - I'm sure it's just a loose socket connection but since I never noticed a difference plugging my passive basses into the active input I never bothered to get it fixed! Other than this, the amp functions perfectly and is a great bit of kit! These bad boys currently cost around £370 new.. You can have mine for £100 :) See below for link to the tech blurb.
    Manufacturer's link **AMP SOLD**

**CAB SOLD** Next - A Trace Elliot 2103H, 2x10" cab. 200W 8Ohm. Reliable, Steadfast, Awesome!
Bought off Dangerboy in 2007, this has proved a great cab. Pre Gibson / Peavey - made in the U.K with the pimple textured vinyl covering. Cab is solid and pumps out a lovely smooth tone. Minor cosmetic damage and no Trace badge but cab is in good condition and fully functioning with (to the best of my knowledge) all original components. Yours for £100 OR direct swap for a Hartke 210XL. **CAB SOLD**

Collection from Hemel, or will meet somewhere not too far away. Try it out - for sure!

Pic below. Will post more in due course. Thanks for looking.

  10.
Whereabouts in London are you? Do you wanna try the MB200?
Yeh could do Merton. Nice offer. Thanks. Actually live in hemel but i work in london... cabs are in hemel though! hmmm. could always make a journey one weekend with my cabs.. or maybe just take the plunge with Mr.Noisy and then if it doesn't work out, sell it on again. Hmmm I'll think about it!!!

  11.
So, if someone were to buy an Ashdown Little Giant and hook it up with a nice external pre-amp, the volume issues go away?

    Truckstop
Saw just that (a LG350 with a Behringer valve preamp) being sold as a set on here recently..

  12. Ok peeps. After a couple of great offers and some serious consideration, I have realised that due to personal circumstances and a crash bang wollop admission of new parental responsibilities, I'm not actually prepared to spend nearly as much on this outing as I'd originally thought...
Figure it's not so much about spending an extra £50 on top of an extra £150 on top of my original £150 budget, but more about spending Hundreds on something I only Want because I like spanky new kit! doesn't everyone? I've not gassed for so long, this first hit has smashed me like a goddam steam train!

So one and all - Thank you for all your advice so far but regrettably, I'll be moving forward with a revised Budget of £200 TOPS. This means no markbass and no Ampeg (unless one comes up 2nd hand within budget, which as Lozz points out is unlikely for a while). This leaves me with the G.K('s), the ashdowns and the harleys. Got to say, of the 3, I'm gravitating towards the G.K's just because of their size and the many endorsements I've read on here and elsewhere on the web. Going to keep an eye on the marketplace here - probably for the 500w version (at the right price), simply due to my understanding that to push 2x 200w cabs with a decent amount of headroom, I may need More than the 200W the smaller model affords. Please though, correct me if I'm wrong?... Merton??? Because Mr.Noisy's got an almost new MB200 on here for £185!!!! And if I could manage with that, I MAY even have a smidgen left over to take a look at one of these d.i boxes a few of you have mentioned... Just as a sweetner for turning down dave's markbass!!! :) easy...

so to refine the advice i'm after; Do we think a G.K. MB200 will be powerful enough to push 2No. Hartke 210XL's for toilet circuit (barfly, underworld, borderline, metro club etc. etc.) size gigs where all I can usually hear is cymbals and white noise from the 3 vocals and guitar screaming out the house monitors? What do we think?

Once again - thanks in advance. Sparky.

  13. I have indeed Lawrence. Just looked at it and the problem seems to be with the peg itself. The part of the peg with the thread isn't being held tight by the housing to the top and the bottom. So when I turn the peg there's a small amount of vertical movement before it starts to ratchet. Hmmm... Wonder if I can just squeeze the opening tight/closed with a pair of pliers or something...

  14. Thank you for your replies all.

So - It'd seem that if I'm willing to pay 300+ it's Markbass no questions. Suits me!! Borrowed a MB combo (single 12" I think) at a gig once and it absolutely blew me away- loved it. Only thing holding me back it guilt! Just battling to justify spending that amount when the band are playing so infrequently.. That said, if I did splash out, I wouldn't be looking to change again for quite some time. Same goes for the Ampeg... Suppose if we're only playing a few gigs a year, it Would be nice to sound the sh*t for them!!! :)

Thanks Merton & Pete for your input on the G.K.. What cab(s) are you both using?
Could someone help me out on the maths for this please- am I going to be leaving a lot of cab unpowered with a 200w amp? Likewise, if I end up with a 500w head, is that a waste of amp power?? Does 2x 200w cabs = 400w capacity?? Ie. A 400w amp would be ideal to run 2x 200w cabs?! Ergh... Realise it's not as straight forward as that and has to do with setup efficiency etc. but like i said in my original post, Just want to make sure I'm making the most of what I have...

Thanks Skidder - Yes, I'll look more into the ashdowns also- these fall much closer to my original budget before I started gassing for more expensive stuff.

Yeh Lozz, I like how the Ampeg looks and will try to test one out. Do you think these likely to start coming up second hand any time soon? I realise they're pretty new but i dig the idea of an amp that only has 5 nobs! looks like it's built pretty solid too... which is good - cause like i said - i'm not planning on changing up again any time soon - just can't afford (or justify) it...

Thanks for that Paul (re. the Harley :). £123 does seem an amazing price for any 350w amp head!! So worth a look for sure. Someone mentioned thomann's no questions return policy- is that for real? Might be worth buying one just to try it! The 500watter also may be a good bet...

Dave - Will look into the D.I boxes you mentioned - Know nothing about that stuff but am interested. I like a pretty plain sound and am always wanting to cut through the mix more - will this help? When i played through the markbass that time, i dug how well i could hear myself - even though the combo was sitting round my ankles!

Z-Mech. I've not read the thread on stacking vertically, but i can see how that'd work... when we rehearse, i often sit down so my ears are closer to my cabs.

Other than all that, I think I may just need to bide my time and watch the BC marketplace like a hawk-- for that £200 quick sale Markbass LMII ;-)

    ...and... i'm spent.

    Many many thanks.

    Sparky
