DHA stuff is 'amazeballs'!

So I have discovered. I've finally got the 'always on' low to medium overdrive sounds that I've been after and that the other pedals I've tried have never quite delivered. I think with the VT-2 it's as much about the slight compression as the grit/dirt. It allows the fundamental tone of the bass through while making it richer and warmer and losing none of the punch. I'm very happy with this pedal.

  2. I bought Mike's DHA VT-2 Twin EQ. Did the deal on Sunday night, pedal arrived on Tuesday, very well packaged and in excellent condition. All very straightforward and friendly. Great bloke to do business with. Fantastic pedal too!

No idea if XTC were classed as new wave but i am listening to Senses Working Overtime. Havent a clue who plays bass on it, but it sounds good

And, yes, XTC were definitely classed as new wave for the first couple of albums at least.

  4. I'd forgotten about tuning to pitch pipes - the past is a foreign country and all that. I think mine looked a bit like this:

  5. +1 for the Zoom H4n. I've been using mine regularly for a couple of years now to record rehearsals & gigs, to capture ideas I have when I'm playing around at home (without having to fire up all the studio gear), and for work (recording radio interviews). Very dependable and versatile - there's a 4 track recorder with effects tucked away in there too.

I found that Sims custom do do the more traditional kind, but their website seems to imply that they will only take on certain projects. I thought there might be more people out there doing custom scrathplates to be honest, there's lots in the US.

Worth dropping Sims a line and seeing what they can do. I sent them an American Deluxe P bass scratchplate to copy. Found them great to deal with and very helpful.

  7. I bought this carbon fibre bow to play with my NS EUB:

A steep but enjoyable learning curve. Obviously it's important to get strings that respond well to the bow or you'll cause yourself no end of unnecessary frustration.

  8. I was back there again on Wednesday to pick up the Super Twin I ordered 2 weeks ago. Carried it back to my house just under a mile away (which was a bit ambitious - 'lightweight' is a relative term). Won't have a chance to run it at gig volume for another week, but even just ticking over at neighbour-respecting levels it sounds great. Big thanks to Alex, Bobby and team.

I always look like a three-hundred-year-old American Indian who has eaten a wardrobe made of crap tied up with about a furlong of pubic-hair rope

I'm sure I'm not the only one who would very much like to see an example...

I have a Mini Q-Tron that needs a volume mod and re-house, a Bearfoot Blueberry, B7K, BB Preamp (similar sound to the CM-2) on my 'board' (i.e. floor) right now, so some similarities there!
Danny, it was your helpful and detailed writing about the BBBOD and comparisons with other ODs which persuaded me that I should give it a go - very glad I did.

The CM-2 is my most recent acquisition, replacing a modded Bad Monkey. I prefer it - more responsive and versatile. I use it in a loop with the B3K, blending with my clean signal and then going into the Bearfoot. On its own the Bearfoot is set to provide some light, always on OD - just adds a bit of thickness and warmth with a pronounced bump in the mids. When I kick in the CM-2 in front of it, it sounds and feels like a valve amp being pushed a bit harder, but still cleans up with a lighter touch. Then if I turn on the B3K as well, it gets really gnarly, but still with good articulation. Very happy with this set up.
