Any 210 cab can be stacked vertically so you don't have to be limit yourself to TC cabs.

If you can spare an extra 3" you could also look at 112 cabs. My 112 cabs are the same width as my vertical 210 (18") but they are 3" deeper.

ooh, I hadn't thought about a pair of 112s. do you gig with this set-up? if so how do you get on volume wise?

A PF350 will drive 2 X 250W cabs no problem, but for the little extra cash I'd get the PF500 and give myself a bit more headroom.

I was thinking of the PF500 as there are couple for sale on here at a reasonable price. I guess I just preferred the simpler layout of the 350: gain bass mid treble volume.

  3. I'm thinking of putting a rig together.

Obviously I'm going to check this out soundwise before I commit but I was wondering if anyone would foresee any issues.

I thinking of getting an Ampeg PF350 and pairing it with a TC Electronics BC210 and then adding another BC210 at a later date.

The reason I'm thinking about the BC210 rather than the Ampeg Portaflex series is mainly a space issue as I live in a small flat with my wife and daughter. I would therefore prefer the vertical alignment setup with the BC210s.

Does anyone think there maybe any impedance or power issues?

    Cheers,

    Paul

  4. A lot of the recorded kinks stuff is off pitch. If we are talking about the same thing that is.

I've heard a theory that it was to do with the piano in the studio being slightly off pitch so everything had to be tuned to that.

  5. Joy Division and New Order came about during and in the aftermath of UK Punk. Punk showed us all that you do not have to have any "official" musical training or qualification to create melodic, emotional music in a reaction against the pomposity of the prog rock that had preceded it. This cleared the way for new bands and musicians to feel confident about going out there and getting on with it.

BTW I'm not dissing prog, I'm a bit of a fan but artists like Peter Hook certainly inspired me more to go out, pick up an instrument, join a band and see what could be created.

More power to him, if I make it to the Bass Show this year his "masterclass" or whatever people want to call it will be the main draw.

Macca's approach is far more acceptable. No compromise at the composing and recording stages - only at the point of delivering live.

that's the way I prefer to aproach it

  8. I find myself having to do bv more and more these days.

I read somewhere (maybe here) that macca used to play much simpler basslines when perfoming live.

I sometimes find myself having to make a decision as to which I would sooner compromise. sometimes it just takes a little tweaking of the bassline to allow me to get the vocals right and it doesn't effect the feel of the music in a live situation. however there are times where the written bassline is so integral to the whole feel of the song that the bv has to take a back seat.

someone also mentioned recently phil lynott and the theory that he must have written the bass part and the vocals side-by-side to allow for any shortcomings.

I hate them with a passion! Each to their own but I want the full fat signal going into the amp. Every effect I have tried has just degraded the sound. The only one I would consider is a valve preamp, not really an effect but it could be driven harder to dirty it up a bit, I still wouldn't use it at the cost of even a shred of fatness though.

I felt this as well until I included a boss LS2 in the chain. It alows me to keep my original tone and just blend in as much as the effect that I need without losing any of the bottom end.

My concern with staying in the existing band and joining the new one is time.

If my old band are still looking at getting together a night a week, and I'll also need to give the same time (plus gigging time) to the originals, I think I'll be on a sticky wicket with Mr SpaceChick!! He's happy for me to be out a night in the week and gigging on weekends, but if it started to interfere with our homelife I think he would get upset!

If you don't think it's going to be a while before you gig again then is it that important to practice/rehearse every week?
