1.
That's a cool looking bass! How old is it and what's the neck profile like? I imagine it's simular sounding to a ray?
Hi,

Yes its identical to a Musicman in the feel when you pick up and play - the neck is suprisingly thin like a jazz neck. The jumbo frets are not everyones cup of tea but makes bends easy and at least means you'll get more life out of them. It dates to early 90s. great active eq going on but more suited to spanking the slap out of it rather than the steady rock I do...

  2. Original ESP B1 Bass for sale.

Gold colour / Active EQ etc

    Original ESP Hard Case included.

Not much information around on these but retailed at over a grand new.

Jason Newland played one in Metallicas Monsters of Rock Tour.

    - 4 strings
    - Alder body
    - Bolt-on maple neck,
    - Rosewood fingerboard with 21XJ frets and dot inlays
    - black hardware and 4 String Deluxe Bass bridge
    - Pickups: Basslines SMB w/STC Active EQ

Great condition (only damage is to headstock corner but difficult to see unless pointed out- i'll get a close up on here shortly).

Looking to get £400 to assist with paying for my new buy but would also consider a trade - inparticular in market for Fender fretless basses/Fender Mustang Bass/Or Epi Riviola type????....(ideally a straight swap but can put bit of cash on top to get a special bass!). S

  3.
The Ashdown 515 is 100w into 4Ω.
As soon as you plug an extension cab into the Ext Speaker socket it will cut out the internal speaker so you'll not get any extra volume.

You only have two choices if you want extra volume using this combo:
    1) Mic it up and send it through the PA.
    2) Use a DI splitter box and send one of the channels back to the PA or another bass amp.

The instruction manual for the 515 is here if that's any help :)
Thanks for that - ill research di splitters

  4. hi,

ok I have bought an ashdown 515 at 100 watts to do some smaller gigs.

Unfortunately it does not have a line out to the PA like I assumed (stupid never checked and it was via ebay).
It does have wheels though so its not all bad!

What it does have is a 8/4 ohms extension out.

Does that mean If i need it to go louder I can add an extra cab? Will this make it louder or just half the sound between speakers?

Can I put it through a PA speaker?

    Thanks

PS Just read this back and it makes me sound a right wolly but truth is I am used to it all being set up and just playing, times change!!!!

  5. So just wanted to share an experience with you...

, there I was sitting with my 2 year old lad watching Cbeebies when Zing Zillas comes on. Hmmm I think, cup of tea time. Anyway, as I start walking away I hear some proper funk bass emitting from the tv set and turn round to see Stu Zender with his amazing signature Warwick playing with a load of monkey puppets...

I mean, just how good can kids telly get????

Dont believe me, well its on You tube.

    wow..,...

  6. GOOD THREAD!

    1. Jaco - within four minutes of listening to my first weather report album I had borrowed my dads soldering iron and was taking off the frets to my cheap warwick wannabe jap copy. Also, his fretless, guard-less Jazz bass sunburst is the sexiest bass I have ever seen (I went out and bought the squier version).

    2. Mani - I loved his honesty when he said by the time the first Roses album went out he still hadnt got a clue how to play the bass , and at that time I thought to myself......this bass guitar lark could be the instrument i'm after....and I bought my first bass. Plus I am the resurection is pure genius for bass soloing.

    3. Entwistle - He was the big daft lad who was asked to join the band cos he had made himself a diy bass....and then went onto to create the amazing to hear/horrid to play solos on My Generation - plus he had a bigger collection of guitars then me.

    4. Sid Vicious - for the same reasons as Mani but he was even worse....and never got good.

    5. Stuart Zender - I was a massive fan of early Jamiroquai and his funk bass was the reason why Emergency on Planet Earth was massive.......

  7. hi,

if it helps I was the last owner of this one (ebay? NI sterling etc?)...and this bass is beautiful in every single way.

Kind of regret selling it now as it truly is a limited edition.

If you search down to sundays basses to sell i've got a US Fender Jazz bass with retro fitted Korg Kaoss pad to sell/trade and would be happy to do a deal (bit wild and out of there agreed but the custom Jazz korg bass is a true one off!).

anyway No worries - I can vouch for the fact that the bass you have plays like a dream!

  8. I see that they do a Stu Zender signature model with Warwick - its a bit dull though, I always thought his was decorated in the Jamiroquai (spelling?) native colours.....great bassist though.

    http://www.warwick.de/modules/produkte/pro...mp;linkID=41976

I bet thats a good bass to play..

  9. OK, so was just having discussion with this guitarist nut at work today and he was saying his favourate guitar sig edition of all time was the fender jagstang which got me thinking....

    soooo my two would be;

    billy sheehan yamaha attitude (practical)

bootsey collins washburn star thing (outrageous)

  10. for that money go used and you open up a world of options....

go for a Fender Jap P or J bass as they are just as good as a US but without the designer tag.....they even make a japanese Fender Mustang bass which should meet that price tag.

or a Warwick standard - made in germany and holds its value.

or a Musicman Sub - they basically brought these out as a cheaper version of the stingray but stopped making them when people realised they were just as good without the bling.....

    anyway hope that helps.

  11.
this is some cool tech you have....what other toys you got in the stable??
not any more, unfortunately.....

in my band days I had all the effects going including a wireless system so that I could walk off stage and still play.

The covers band is quite strict so no more am I allowed to act like the fool....its not the done thing at weddings apparantly...

    for shame!

  12. Hi,

our band has a female front and we find that even very male dominated songs sound great 'rocked chicked 'up...

anyway, the best ones we have which a female sounds suprisingly hot with is ....

come together - beatles (prob best bass lead song ever!)

    20th century boy t-rex

    and billie jean -

oh, and the arctic monkeys version of love machine....

not sure if thats what your after - but from experience females can really rock these up!

ps. It took some getting used for us (as we were used to all males) but a rock band with a female front is fantastic - listen to the dead weather album - amazing.

  13. Hi, just a quick hello from a new member.

I'm based in Nottingham and have been playing serious (if you can call it that) bass for about 5 years now.

I have been in a local band (CAPONE? anyone) for about 3 years where we drank alot and kind of forgot what we were supposed to be playing in front of curious local folk. But we did play some great venues like Boat club, old angel, castle festival etc....

anyway, I am now in a boring covers band but we are fairly good and play some good local gigs.

I have owned LOADS of basses from cheap ones that fell apart on stage (true, one actually fell apart while performing) to Gibsons which I did not dare strum in case I scratched the newness off.

I tended to be fairly excentric on stage so have had lots of shiny basses with LEDs but now have had to calm down due to the audience we tend to play too (covers bands do not suit korg kaoss fitted j basses)!.

anyway hope to speak to you all soon.

  14.
Ah... oh dear... can of worms indeed. Pointless thread with all due respect from yours truly.

If you find it in yourself to eradicate the evils of hype, hearsay and whatever crap you read on internet fora... then you'll realize that perhaps even a £50 nameless bass can be ace to a man, and that same man couldn't care less for... say a handmade Fodera or a Ken Smith even if he could afford it.

Ok example: even in this thread someone said try a Rickenbacker, they are the dogs' blx, well I have tried many Ricks in as many models as they come, money not being an issue for me, they just don't do it for me at all! Same as Warwicks, I know there is a "cult" going on about Warwick basses, but they mean jack **** to me. Don't like holding them, playing them and even hate the sound they make. But at the same time I wouldn't dare diss them, I simply appreciated they are not for me and that doesn't mean they're bad. I am sure that some of the basses I rate might not be your choice and that some people wouldn't even touch with a barge pole.

So I ask, why for threads like these exist? Do we all drive the same car, wear the same shoes? No, we do not! So how could we possibly agree on what is the best bass?
true, and to be honest I wrote the title to the thread before starting to write and then forgot what it actually was I was doing....kind of like being back at school (which explains why I flopped, dropped out and learned the 4 string and not the spanish guitar...). So if you replace the title with the 'best bass ever' and insert 'new member rants about his previous bass collection' its prob more accurate.

I loved the Yamaha attitude though - like driving a pimped up hummer.

  15.
You should make a youtube demo explaining the setup and basic functions. I think it may be hard to shift this without one.
good advice - i'll prob do that some time (unfortunately i need to get my camera back from the father in law first which will prob mean I have to do some editing of his photos first - never good).

in meantime these kind of show it but on a guitar (thats not me by way, i wish).

  16.
So you plug the bass into the kaoss pad, the kaoss pad back into the bass for the bass mounted controller to work then the whole thing into an amp and the Kaoss pad basically works an an effects processor but with a drum machine and everything? How many leads run between the bass and the kaoss pad?
i know, it sounds complex but if you knew me you'd know it could'nt be that hard....

ok, so bass is in your hand.

    1. Theres a custom lead from bass to korg - this means you now have control over the touch screen. Whatever happends from now on you will control what goes through the korg device.

    2. Korg into amp/pa to hear it.

    3. Bass into amp as normal (I have a two way imput convertor for your amp if you want the KOrg and bass to go through same hole).

    4. Now to sort the korgs input......if you want the korg to take your bass as the input (which dont forget you dont have to have, the bass just controls the korg so any imput will work) then you put an input lead from bass into the korg like using an effects pedal. However if you want an i pod (for example) then that goes into Korg instead (so you now control the sound of the i-pod). You could even use your mates electric guitar through the korg - endless options.....

For me I stick both guitar and korg into same amp when practising but when gigging I put the korg through pa and bass in amp.

    SIMPLE.....(breathe)

  17.
Just checked these Korg units on youtube. Its a cracking tool to play about with. How useful is it in a bass situation though??
Hi,

    Its good for a number of things;

it is great for dubbing in cover songs (for example, we were doing our own take on dance floor by monkeys and when it came to the intro/chorus I could bring in the sample with some synth and play over it....just like a dj might dub in. For this you would fit your i-pod/pa as the source and run it through your bass (sounds complex but simple).

if you purely run your bass through its best trick is for synth sounds (think wide array of boss pedal synth noises but with this one you control every aspect of that with your finger). There are loads of other effects available (see you tube) but that would be my top.(theres also a drum machine which your finger controls)

finally and most important of all is that it proves the bassist can have bit of bling too!

plus - when you just leave the korg at home you have a top quality usa fender jazz bass to gig with if you dont want the effects .
