ok I've been to the shop again, experimenting with cabs (my Epifani 112 and Bergantino 112 and their 4x10, both neo and ceramic) and tone stack... and we are still waiting for the (huge heavy) transformers... and customising the tone stack too, as I am EQ-retentive ;-) I'll keep you posted

ok a couple of months later, now I had the 3 hours of luxury time to open the bass... and I used the cardboard-holding-the-pots to compare sounds and taper...
250k audio
500k audio
500k linear
all cts
with 2x Barto M4 quad coil with the double switching (serial-parallel and P-hb-revP) in Vol-Vol-Tone
first conclusion: 500k gives more top even at full (which does not make sense to my little electronic knowledge as the pot is shorted completely in that situation but there was an obvious difference)
second conclusion: the linear pot gives more musical taper (more smooth) than the exponential audio one, from full to 95% empty, then it is very steep. Again it does not make sense to my electronics limited knowledge (RC filters interact with the coil of the pickup to but I don't get it - I only get why the last 5% of the torque is very steep)
So I put linear taper to both volume and the tone. For the latter, it makes it even more useless than the audio taper, but for both volume I get much more subtle useable adjustments.
So I presume I'd like a linear for the 1st half, and exponential for the rest, but custom tapers are not really an option. I know that high end mixing desks do this so I presume this is where my bias comes from... my EMG active pickups with passive VVT is also so continuous and beautiful that I suspect there is a custom taper there too...
Anyway, I've lost enough money/time with this, and since I use only the tone to both extremes I will be fine ;-) -
to answer you question, the last g... seen here was burnt for witchery ;-)
Have a bump on my stupid joke!

btw I'll be able to tell you the weight for real when I get mine.

very. very, very.
The problem is that I was told it is impossible to have the same otherwise. I have done A-B-C-D as described above, and it is true.
I don't think it is a one-rig-fits-all though, hence keeping the Eden (tighter) and the TC (lighter) but getting rid of the Fender (distorts too soon for my taste) -
Eden is more versatile and more punchy (tube pre but transistor class AB poweramp)... TC is even more versatile but is clinical and a little generic, like the colour on the hospital walls (though you can repaint very quickly to get a good sound...)
GT-200 sings beautifully, has a good passive EQ, well calibrated for both instruments I brought. Cranking the highs was an epiphany: never harsh yet sparkling... the disto was nasty (even naughty!) when I wanted it... an amazing musical instrument, which completes the collection. If I need something light, I won't bring it out ;-)

Here is my thread ;-)
http://basschat.co.uk/topic/170306-i-ordered-two-matamp-amps/ -
OK this is a little show off of a title ;-)
So I ordered a GT-200 after spending a whole afternoon with Jeff, Hayden, Andrew, and the others... I had brought in my Eden wt-400, my TC RH 450 and my Fender Bassman 100 from 1976... and I am selling the latter as it is no match whatsover!
I tested on their 4x10 and 2x12 and this is the best amp I've ever played in. A category on its own. I took the standard, and saw a guitar combo in balck and red and gold and loved it so I went for it! I inquired about a mid-freq-switch like they have on their guitar amps and a different taper on the drive button to be able to dial more subtly in the clean zone... voilà!
Speaking of guitar amps, I also ordered a 1224mk2 and two 2x12 for the uni studios that I am in charge of, in sparking blue...
My research assistant ( I had to bring 3 guitar players as I was not to shop for that instrument by myself ;-) almost bought one for himself too... all in all, a fantastic day out in Meltham.
I'll attach picture when I get the beasts.

I think I'll start two build thread now...
-
I want the gain to be for longer (therefore subtler control) in the clean zone... and I'd like to have other centre freqs for the mids... as for the colour, I went for red and black... and old logo... should be ace!
the uni one is blue! wow effect! -
and I just bought a gt-200 with 2 little experimental mods... and a 1224mk2 and 2 x 212 for the uni... what an amazing bunch these people are!
-
I'm going this afternoon to buy a 1224 for the uni studio and most probably a gt-200 with amendments for me... I'm so excited! I bring the Eden WT400 the Fender Bassman100 from 1976 and the TC RH450 to do comparisons too... and will try the proto of the classD I think...

If I read your signature, you are ready to sell and eden to keep a Little Mark? Either we have very different tastes or you have back problems ;-)
-
bump for the best amp on earth! I'd buy it if I had not already 2...

hello
can you tell us how much you want for each element please?
thanks
