1.
How much difference was there when you dropped in the Audere?

ALso there is something about these basses. I really like them, but they look like they need a good kicking to get 'that look'!
With the Audere: More punchy sound, kinda agressive one (the preamp output signal is adjustable with a small screw inside). Being able to adjust lows, mids and highs separately is also very important to me; the mix is way better now.
So I'd say: more punch and a more ''accurate" sound (is it the proper word ?).

I'm afraid my English is too poor to describe the differences the way I feel so why not listening to a soundclip I recorded after I had put the Audere: here (with much reverb :) ) and one I recorded before: here (something more ''roots'') and make your own opinion ? Hope it helps.

  2. I had exactly the same goal when I recently purchased my MIJ JB. The pickguard has already been changed and Wizard pickups should be on their way to France within a few weeks. I will keep the original bridge (for vintage/cosmetic reasons) but probably add an Hipshot Xtender to get the low D.

The (used) bass was ok when I received it, just the usual dings on the body and head that you will find on almost every Fender bass coming from Japan. The rest showed absolutely no scratch and even the frets seemed to be brand new and unplayed. LOL

I have got 3 MIJ Fender basses since the beginning of the year. All were upgraded (or are about to be) and I am now a happy man. :)

  3. Went to your myspace and listened. Interesting things there. Your guitarist is definitely a Zappa/Vai fan, right ? :)
    1984 sounds good.
Too bad you have no singer in your band. Is it something you already considered ?

  4. Hey, that could be interesting to set up some kind of a small bassday with guys from the UK and French forums. You guys come here and we go there.... London/Paris Bass Days.

    Au menu:

    Basses and Amps tests
Shop visits in Pigalle (please don't misunderstand me: I'm talking about Music shops :) )
    Good local food
Music listening in some clubs in Paris

    How's that ?

  5. My Babes.

Both those JP Basses are completely unique instruments, with amazing sound and tone. Both are very light with comfortable necks.

Lucii 6, hollowbody fretless, piezo upgraded (aka ''J-Lo'')
White Limba body, koa top and back, wenge neck with stabilized palm wood fingerboard, JP pickups and John East preamp, ultralight Hipshot hardware.

upgraded hipshot ''A'' bridge with piezo saddles

    -------------

    Naia 6
White limba body, curly maple top, wenge neck with bookmatched pao ferro fingerboard with radius ''0'', JP pickups and John East preamp, ultralight Hipshot hardware.

  6. John > I bought these connectors at the "shop next block". I don't even know where they come from but they're not gold plated like the EBS ones. Anyway gold plating those things is just a way to make more money on us; it doesn't make any difference on the sound... :) I'll shoot and post a pic for ya.

    EDIT: Here we are !

  7. I wish we could do some more Steely Dan stuff but we use to perform as a power trio most of the time (guitar bass drums) and it would probably be difficult for us. The keyboards tracks were added by a good friend of ours (our former keyboard player actually).
Josie seemed to be one song that we could manage our way. I used to play ''Black Cow'' but it was 15 years ago with a blues/rock band that splitted after the lead singer definitely found his way in drinking alcohol.

Anyway I'll manage to have the band work ''Cousin Dupree" which is a funny song I especially like. BTW, I was lucky to attend to Steely Dan's concert in Paris last month. Those guys are killer musicians !

  8.
The grey area for me is cover bands that try to slip a few originals into the set - I struggle to see how that work at the typical pub/club.
That's what we do and it works pretty well but it also depends on the audience. We would not not play original songs if we knew people came to listen to ''shake your body" pop/rock songs or a Pink Floyd tribute.

  9.
Impressive, so do you keep the gnomes in Giutar cases? :)
LOL ! The gnomes were quietly waiting inside to get their small world back. The wooden invaders did not stay long as it started raining cats and dogs a few minutes after the pics were shot.

  10. A few sound clips with my cover band and a few others more personal:
