Nice little rig you got there Eude, - I like that a lot!
-
Oh yeah....that tort pickguard really works.
Nice. -
Following on from Grangurs point, - maybe play a simple 12 bar blues progression together?
Start off very simply, then add little fills and fancy bits as his confidence grows.
Can't think of a better way of a father and son enjoying music and learning together. -
Just bought some Payson strings form Kev.
Answered my PM super quickly, and posted the strings very quickly too.
Nice little deal . Top bloke!- 1

Tried it. Doesn't work!
Good luck! -

I've heard a lot of good things about the Darkglass B7K.
Although it's a lot more than just a distortion pedal really. But not cheap though, expect to pay around £250 new.
Not really a big fan of distorted bass personally. -
PM'd, - but probably too late!
-
Sunday 13th, perhaps?

I think they might be suggesting that they're not big fans of the slap style in general.
I might be wrong of course.. -

I guess the ideal for me would be a Combustion 4 if such a beastie existed. All the current 4-string Dingwalls are very pricey though and there don't appear to be any 'pre-loved' ones in my price range.

Yes, you're right, no such thing as a Combustion 4. Sheldon might be missing a trick there in his 'affordable' range.
Meanwhile, while you're looking for an alternative, have another try at getting used to a 5 string. Believe me, if anyone can, I can!
I deliberated over buying my Sklar for ages; decide not to buy it at first because it had 'too many strings'! But in the end I took the plunge.
I've been working at it since Christmas, making the transition to 5 strings. It's not been easy, but for the first time the other day, I picked up one of my (many) 4 strings, and it felt like it 'didn't have enough strings'
So... don't be too hasty, eh?
Just had a thought; - it might not be possible on a Dingwall, because of the scale lengths; but could you restring it E A D G C? -

I acquired the bass firstly to ‘scratch an itch’ regarding the fanned fret system (of which I am now a complete convert ), and secondly to try my hand at a 5-string (rather less successful ). The bass is now for trade for something with 4 strings (or for outright sale).

That's a real shame, I remember reading on the Dingwall forum recently how excited you were when you got it. -
Well done, - an excellent find!

I looked at the sticker and told him it said £10[/quote]
Jedi mind trick! -
Aren't you supposed to come out with a new bass costing hundred's, if not thousands of pounds Ray?
That's how the story normally goes.. -
Get the Bass Doc to make you a new perspex pickguard.
Best of both worlds then! -
Yep, it's locked.
-
Nope. My Sklar is head and shoulders above any other bass in my collection.
But I still play the others; and enjoy them -
As spring is just around the corner, and the weather is already starting to improve, do you expect to spend more time outdoors in the coming months, enjoying the sunshine and any outdoor hobbies you choose to persue; and consequently, less time indoors practicing?
Do you feel guilty, or that you're missing out if you're indoors playing bass when it's sunny outside?
Is better weather actually better for us bassists? -
What a lovely Jazz!
If I didn't already have 3 I'd be interested..
Have a bump back to page 1, where you belong my little beauty. -
I'm close, - in Gosport; but my collection only goes as high as a 6-string. Sorry.

Brief guide (because I'm at work) Sshhhhhh....
Go to 'Your profile' at the top of the screen
Click on 'my profile'
Click on 'change' in the grey picture box
Then you should get the option to either add a picture from your hard drive, or one from an image hosting website (eg photobucket)
I've managed to do it, - so it shouldn't be too difficult!
