    Cascade I meant Bass into ch1 then output (tube) into ch2 :rolleyes: Would that work? Man, you are really putting me through my paces! He he. Well, I tried it and it works no problem. I think (but it my be psychoacoustics at play here!) it sounds really tubey and warm. More pronounced tube compression. Hmm. Nice idea you had there!

    So the gain knob show is purely for the output level of the line out? Yes, it is engaged when the "THRU TUBE" switch is on.

    So by turning this gain knob to full does it distort or just send a really hot signal out? Or both? Sends a really hot signal. No distortion as such, but, in theory, more tubeyness, I suppose, as it's the tubes are doing more work.

    Is it possible to cascade the channels into each other? If you mean mix down to one channel, no. But, you quite simply accomplish this with some sort of blender.

    Are the outputs line or instrument level? There are two outputs for each channel - one a balanced XLR (labelled "MIC OUT") for traditional DI style use, the other a jack output (labelled "TO AMP"), for connecting directly to your amplifier. This "TO AMP" output also has an additional gain knob, if you need a bit more juice. I have used it very successfully both as a studio DI (i.e. straight to the mixing console/desk) and as part of a live rig, direct to my Schertler PUB 280 powered speaker.

    Is this robust enough for live use? Yes, definitely. All metal construction and built to last.

    Does it get particularly hot during a 2 hour running period? Warm, but definitely not hot.

    Strangely enough, yes I have directly compared this to the Summit TD-100, as well as the Millennia TD-1 and REDDI. I found this to be the cleanest while still retaining that nice tube character. The Millennia was also great, but almost too clean, even with the tube engaged. The Summit was okay, but I just found it to be nothing special. The REDDI was nice, but in the end, I felt this unit just had something that made me keep coming back for more. I went through a phase of trying to find the perfect DI for a very critical recording project, hence all the experience with high end DIs.

    This DI isn't made any more, but it was designed by one of the best in the business - Fred Forssell - who, if the name isn't familiar to you, is very highly regarded in the pro audio world. According to the website, ADL still support this unit, so if you ever have any problems/questions, they will be able to help.

  4. I have an excellent Peterson V-SAM strobe tuner for sale. This is really great, but surplus to requirements. I found it was just a bit too big for taking to gigs, so I'm going to go for something more compact.

    NB - Currently has a UK plug and is set up for 220V use. The unit can accept 100, 120, 220 230 or 240 volts at 10 watts, so using it anywhere with 100-120-V, you'll need to replace the fuse (which is easily done, as there's a little removable compartment on the back of the chassis).

    I'm the "some other bloke".

    I liked it, but for me I decided the neck was just a bit too shallow and the string spacing was just a bit too close together. Also, I needed it for pit work and I would have had to get the pre-amp properly seen to - couldn't be sure it was 100% reliable. And there was a dent near the tone pots (cosmetic issue only). But the main reason is that I wasn't particularly in the market for a 6 string. Certainly a great deal for the money, though - I was tempted. Nice purchase!
