1. How much are you looking for? What's the reason for selling?
2. or I could use the speakon output from the amp and daisy chain the cabs I think. I thought initially that daisy chaining the cabs would put them in series, but it appears it would put them in parallel, so I stand corrected (I just love these orthopaedic shoes)
3. Looking at the owners manual, it appears all the outputs (speakon and jacks) are in parallel. so, it looks like I will need to use speakon to connect the GK (which only has speakon) and jack to jack (or jack to Speakon) for the Ampeg.
4. Just taking a closer look at the Ampeg outputs, I see have 1 x Speakon and 2 x Jack. Wondering if I can just use the Speakon plus one of the jack outputs - will that still give me the impedance I need? Also - why is there only 1 Speakon output I wonder?
5. I’ve got an Ampeg 210 Pro Neo 550w 8ohm cab and just about to get a GK cX115 300w 8 ohm cab. I want to get max ouptut from my SVT 3 Pro which I understand will be with a load of 4 ohm, so I need to put the cabs in parallel. my question is this - if I just plug one cab into each speaker output on the amp, will this put them in parallel? Thanks in advance!
6. Here is my trusty Marshall practice amp. This may sound odd, but my wife seems to think that owning 5 bass amps is at least 3, if not 4, too many (and she doesn't even know about number 6 on long term loan to a friend....) So, it is time to rationalize a bit and not have a bass amp for each room in the house. Marshall is a well trusted brand and this little beauty has done me proud. I use it for practice at home and quiet rehearsals with the band. Main features: 25W output 2 inputs Headphone socket Master volume & volume Bass, Middle and Treble EQ And it's light! All in full working order and pretty good condition (one small tear on the top though, as shown in the pic). Happy to answer any questions. Would prefer pick up from home in Basingstoke, but could deliver if local. I'll keep it on here for a few days then its onto ebay, so be quick! Call phil on 07962 651658
7.
Send them off to Wizard or someone equally good for a test and a possible rewind for the weaker coil (or both if necessary). I had a pre-CBS PUP rewound to original Fender spec (via Bass Doc on here), and it sounded way better than I could have anticipated C
Great - thanks for the tip!
8. Hi - I've got a 1976 Fender P, but I am finding that the gain when I play the D and G strings is much less then from the E and A strings. I have messed with different EQ but can't seem to get a reasonable balance (I have a Fishman compressor/EQ and going through an Ampeg SVT3 Pro). It has been suggested that the pick ups on the mid 70's Fender P's were not so hot and it might be nest to replace them. Has anyone any comments/recomendations to make? Tks in advance
9.
tight as !
Didin't he miss a note 17 bars from the end? ;-)
10.
the bass guitar is still nobodys' bitch.
Thank you all for your comments on this thread - they are really really useful. My Fav quote is one above though - love it!
11.
You need to practice typing practice. Good advice though.
Ha! Typing never was my strong point, hopefully my playing is better!
12.
what do you play bro?
I in a number of different environments - one band is a 6 pix that does old soul, old R&B abd a bit of funk type stuff. Another band is 3 piece blues rock outfit. I also play on Sunday mornings in Church - so a bit varied really! One thing I do want to do is to enhance my solo-ing ability - to maybe develop a party piece or two, just for fun.
13.
once you got the basics down and incorporate what you know, you can make up stuff on your own.. i think its very easy to turn slap and pop into an exercise everytime you play it....keep it musical...this is not gospel, but when i first started the technique i only used my thumb and played parts that i would usually play fingerstyle..then build on that with pop... IMHO, unless you want to solo, the best slap is very understated...
I agree - I want to be able to blend it into the stuff I already play - to have it as another tool in the box as it were. So I need to get really comfortable with the basic techniques then adapt and improvise as required.,
14. Tks - I will check those guys out. I've just downloaded a course by a guy called Dmanlamius. Just in the time since I posted this thread (only a hour or so I guess), I've already learned loads! The combination of a thumb slap, a pop, hammer ons and mutes is amazingly effective!
15.
To get a good slap sound.. you can use either active or passive Round Wound strings I dont use any effects and you shouldnt need to...ok maybe a bit of comp Any fairly good amp There is no magic recipe, a good technique with the basics, touch, practice...its all in your hands...if you havent got this down, no gear in the world will make you sound better... ive seen awsome sounding slap coming out of an old Encore bass....fresh strings help though.. my point is you dont need to touch on all of your details to get a good slap sound... just to add it sounds like you already have the right gear for the job...even the Stingray, but with RW's
Ok - lessons, pratice, practice, pratice, pratice, practice, pratice........etc
16.
For an old-school funk sound you've got suitable enough gear, a P-bass with roundwounds and a compressor is all you need. If you want to sound like an '80s fusion slapper then you need much more expensive gear and a Bill Cosby sweater, but nobody wants to sound like that do they?
Ok - I'll stick with the current gear, forgo to sweater and get some lessons then.......;-)
17. I've been playing bass for ages but never really mastered playing slap bass. I look at the guys on you tube and wonder how they get the sounds they have. So I was wondering, what are the elements of getting a really good slap bass sound? I guess we need to start with the basic technique of slapping and plucking - but what about: - the type of bass - active or passive? Which works best for this style? Any partic makes/models better (I have a 70's fender P and a fretless musicman) - type of strings - I presume wirewound, but what gauges? - Effects pedals - what do you recomend - how important is compression etc? (I've got a Fishman compression pedal and Boss bass chorus) - Amps - any particular recomendations? (I've got an ampeg SVT3 and a couple of trace cabs, a 4x10" and a 1x15") What is going to get me to that pefect fat slap sound? And are they recomendations on how to learn the technique better? I am having trouble finding a local tutor (in Basingstoke) - any particular DVD/online courses anyone could recomened - or a particualr person on Youtube? Thanks in anticipation for the comments
18. Hi - I am a reasonably experienced bass player but would really like to master slap bass - any one giving lessons in the basingstoke area? Thanks
