Thanks for your replies, unfortunately £350 is the limit but I can't complain. Loz thanks for your comments as I knew you had one before. Would you recommend anything else?

My wife has very kindly offered to treat me to a new amp/speaker for Christmas. I have decided I'll probably go with a combo as it seems easier to set up, it has to be new as it will be going on plastic and I have about £350 limit. I like the idea of the Marshall MB4210 as I could add speakers to it later and it would run at 450 watts as well as running at 300 watts unaided.
I am in the process of getting a punk type band together we are all 45 + so we are not looking to"make it" just have fun and do the odd gig any ideas what to spend her hard earned on?

I'm 55, started learning to play late last year, and last Friday rehearsed with drummer two guitarists and a vocalist for the first time(the oldest is in his mid sixties) We all had a great time and are now looking to get a set together and start gigging. There is nothing to stop you! Good Luck.

My "lead" guitarist is 68

Just like to say thank you to Guitar Guitar. I purchased an Epiphone Thunderbird from them second hand they helped me whilst I was ordering it as I thought it might get blocked at work. It was delivered next day got an email saying it was going to be delivered between 14:39 and 15:49. At 14: 40 I got a text from my wife that it had arrived. Just like to give credit where it is due.

I have only been playing a few months and have the Yamaha RBX 170. My guitarist friend who came round couldn't beleive it was only around £160! A question though what would the neck on a Yammy compare to?

Well we had a practice yesterday and had a really good time,although I have been playing weeks and one guitarist has played for 7 years and the other one has been playing at least 20! I got a bit nervous when one of the guitarists opened his cases and had a Gary Moore Les Paul and his back up was a Fender Strat compared to my Yammy.
We had a good time and are meeting up in a couple of weeks this time with a drummer (he couldn't make yesterday so we used the drum machine on a Line 6 combo).
I played through an Ashdown Electic Blue 15 180 watts it was ok seemed loud but didn't have it two high as I tried to hide a bit at first but turned it up as confidence grew. I am looking to probably buy one of these next year when I have saved a few pennies although one of the guys has offered to let me use a mesa boogie rig.

I have just started playing bass (about a month ago) and have bought myself a Yamaha RBX 170 and a little MB15 for practicing at home. I have got in touch with a couple of guitarists and a drummer and we are going to start rehearsing next week(no point in waiting to long we are all old!) if we get to the small gigs stage what would be a good combo to get? And what sort of size would I need? I will not bee needing it for rehearsal as I can use the rehearsal studio amp for £2.20. Any cheap as possible ideas?

In the end I went with the Yamaha RBX 170 with a Marshall MB15. I thought it had a warmer tone than the Squier and has more variety as well.

The shop will give me £100 trade in on my amp which should mean I'll have about £230 max to spend. Are the Squier Affinity packages any good or the Epiphone EBO?

Hi thanks for your replies. Not sure how much I have to spend as I am having to sell my melody maker to fund it. I suppose £150. I want something that sounds like a precision so that means the squier is on the list but the yammy and ibby are cheaper!

I'm new to wanting to take up bass guitar, and I have small hands and and something similar to Carpal Tunnel syndrom. I am looking to buy a cheapish introductory bass and looking for advice. What would be best the entry level Ibanez, or Yamaha or Squier? Also is a Jbass style easier to play (neck wise) than a PBass?
