1. I've played the bass on a couple of occasions and was really impressed with it. It's quite heavy but the tone and playability of the bass together with the excellent condition are the reasons I'm seriously considering purchasing it.

    Many thanks for the info.

  2. I've been offered a Jazz bass from a keyboard player I know, who bought the bass second hand in 1982. He's not sure how old it is, and I was wondering what's the easiest way of dating the bass? We're figuring that it must be a late '70s model. I'm presuming if I get the serial number that should help.

The bass is in exceptional condition and has hardly been gigged. The chap bought the bass but it has not really been used as he never got round to learning to play bass. I was using the bass at a rehearsal recently and said I'd be interested in buying the bass if he ever wanted to sell it. Trouble is now he's offered me it, he's no idea of how much to ask for and in fairness to him I want to offer him a reasonable price for it. I'm thinking a ball park figure of £1000 bearing in mind the condition of the bass.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  3. I bought one of these in the early 90's second hand, never knew the model name though!! These are excellent basses and mine has served me well, having done countless gigs over the years. Although I mainly use Spectors now, I would say these basses are easily in the same class as a Spector Euro in terms of playability and tone. Only reason I'm not using mine at the moment is the pots need replacing and Fernandes spares aren't that easy to source, especially when you don't know the model name!!

  4. I've got an EBS Gorm 2x10 300w which I never seem to use anymore so might be interested in some sort of deal. Like yourself I have an EBS 4x10 cab which I use most of the time these days, together with my old trusty trace head or SWR 750. I've never tried a mark bass amp but would am tempted to give them a try.

Unfortunately the bass is not in my possession at the moment, but shold get it back soon

  6. I've been told by the chap who's supposedly fixing it that can doesn't know what impedence the pots should be and cannot find out any information from Fernandes. I must admit I wouldn't have thought there is anything unusual about the pots, but I'm not particularly technically minded it has to be said
Couldn't you use generic pots like the ones available from allparts etc.. or are the ones in your bass unique?
7. Sounds like a good deal to me!! I really like the flexibility of sounds on offer and don't regret buying mine at all even if it was a bit more than £300. Good luck with it p.s. the 8 string sound with overdrive and a bit of octave sounds awesome.

Thanks for the heads-up - been considering one of these for a while, and £300 seems very reasonable.

    Cheers

  8. I've got an old Fernandes bass with active p.ups that I've owned for years. Unfortunately the pots are knackered and have taken the bass to 2 local shops to try and get it fixed. Neither of them have been able to source the correct pots for the bass so unfortunately I've been unable to use it for the last 2 years. Any ideas where I might be able to source the correct parts? Not had any joy from Fernandes either.

  9.
Sounds like a bass £1000+, feels like a £200- bass in your hands.
That's a fair synopsis I reckon. I do keep persevering with it as there are some good sounds on it all of which can be saved, but not the nicest bass to play, and not having a pick up to rest upon feels odd!!

  10. I played a Kramer 8 string with Aluminium neck a few years ago and loved the feel and sound of it; I believe I played Jeremy on it as well; rude not too really. Pretty tempted to go for an ESP 8-string, I see Thomann are selling them for £320 at the mo.

  11. Considering letting the ole vette go. Had the bass sometime, but rarely use it since buying a Spector Euro 5 string. Comes with warwick gigbag, truss rod tool and finishing wax. In pretty good condition, but a slight ding on the underside of the neck, but not particularly noticeable.
