    Thank you @Ashdown Engineering

yes, I think it had had a drop in all probability, and wasnt packaged great.

New unit is due out on Monday, so hopefully I wont need you to get involved at these awkward times.

Thanks for the offer of having a look at it. If it helps, one of the main reasons I've gone back to ashdown is the customer service, and you proved it straight away.

Oh, and although mine was slightly defective ..... what an amp!!

No worries, keep us in the loop and we'll get you sorted if required.

    Just received this from PMT.

A quick review, as theres only so much you can do when all your neighbours are at home.... and i need to ask some advice.

Firstly the item was clearance, but presumably new - as it didnt say anything else.

The box was obviously an opened box, re taped, but well packed.

On inspection theres a few Mark's on the tolex, the vu doesnt light up yellow, and a valve looks to be askew - can any advise if this is acceptable? They're only small things, but a bit of a disappointment when you spend a fortune.

The sound though is absolutely fantastic! Gees - that's real warmth and response. Just what I wanted. The eq section seems to do a lot too (contrary to reports).

Fairly easy to lift due to the strong side handles and not that heavy.

    I'll carry on testing!

Sorry to hear this La Bam, I was going to offer to get this sorted for you but sounds like PMT are looking after you?

Keep us in the loop and let me know if there's any help needed, sounds like its been launched by a courier in all fairness...

No worries. Glad it's all sorted now and yes it is likely my email went into a black hole as the timing fits.

Good to know. I must confess that I thought you were ignoring me so went with another product. Also doubly annoying to see the Oxford PMT has one in stock that I could have tried (I swear that wasn't there when I looked before). Should my new purchase fall through I'll be taking a closer look at the AA 50 R in future. It looks killer versatile.

No problem, what did you go with instead out of interest?

  4. Apologies, we had issues with our email server pre Christmas which wasn't resolved until the first week of Jan so none of the info@ emails came through sadly. So if your email was during this period it will have never made it unfortunately.

To answer your question however it should in theory work nicely, will all depend on how loud you need to be on stage... may be worth looking at the 100 at the same time as more power and twice the speakerage...

If you're in or near Oxford swing into PMT as pretty sure they have them in stock there. Or if you're ever down Essex way then you're welcome to pop in and have a blast with your upright...

@Ashdown Engineering - the reference below is to GR Amps (Italy), from another thread, who are providing a power out to power effects pedals, so this is already being done.

But not on something that is specifically designed to go on the pedal board like the Amp or Newt. IMO it would be a 'killer app' if you managed to incorporate that into your pedal board amps, particularly if you could provide a few isolated outputs. Guitarists, who are bigger a market still, as well as bassists would start going weak at the knees...(and an aux in , so we can properly use it as a headphone amp, whilst you're at it please! 😁)

We did indeed look at adding a 9v out to the Ant and the Newt for powering pedals As it makes total sense but for this version at least we wanted to make it as small, light and affordable as possible. There’s so little space in the enclosure as is that we would have had to add around 40mm to the length to incorporate it plus a bit of added cost/weight so we decided against it. We will however down the line add it to a ‘deluxe’ version for those who would benefit from it.

As for on heads? Would you really want to run a barrel jacked fairly flimsy cable from the back of a head at the back of the stage to power pedals? Sounds like an accidental mute moment waiting to happen...

Tell me about it! Already imagining the day this can slot into my bass gig bag, with a lightweight 4 ohm cab in one hand!

Right...now to find that lightweight 4 ohm cab... :)

    ...found one 😁

    Eich 112XS-4 27 lbs & 300W RMS at 4 ohm

If anyone knows of lighter equally capable 4 ohm, please shout.

We could likely do a custom 4ohm RM cab For that weight or less or if you were to hang fire a bit an ABM Neo, just a thought...

    Perfect - thanks guys!

Can I maybe suggest you consider amending your website page to either delete reference to 'max power = 200W' altogether or replace it with a peak power of 265W to avoid confusion on this point?

I very much look forward to getting one of these - very well done for cracking the power / size ratio in making a truly usable pedal board bass amp, the very first on the planet that I'm aware of(!), which could also double up as a very useful headphone amp if only it had an aux in - any chance of adding this before release @Ashdown Engineering?

Speaking of which, do you have a release date?

Yes will tidy up the web page, it was all done pre NAMM in a bit of a whirlwind to be fair so there’s lots of bits admittedly to sort yet on most of the new product pages. We’re a small team so we don’t always immediately get everything how we want it done sadly as we do everything in house.

In the UK we expect the first ANTs to arrive in around a months time. Dealers should be taking pre orders now

Yup they seem to have updated their website to refer to 'continuous' rather than RMS and have  changed the numbers from 140W RMS to 196W continuous at 4 ohms

@Ashdown Engineering is your rather tasty new piece of kit delivering 196W RMS at 4 ohms? If it is, colour me interested!

If not, what are you meaning by 'continuous'?

Also when you refer to 'max' power of 200W is this also at 4 ohms and is 'max' = 'peak' power in standard speak? If the peak power is 200W at 4 ohms, the ratio between RMS (if that is 196W at 4 ohms) and peak seems to be out of kilter.

We’ve tested the hell out of the production version over the past week so as to get the truest accurate figures.

Essentially peak/burst ratings are irrelevant in the real world so we test for what the amp will produce all day long hence continuous power, it actually peaks at around 265 watts but when measuring the true RMS before clipping it will produce 196 watts happily into a 4ohm load and 140 into 8ohm.

    Hope that helps...

Why bother with Hartke (very average IMHO) when Ashdown service is the polar opposite - brilliant! Just saying like.

Ah thanks, sad to read in all honesty though, we hope you get sorted. If not maybe we can help you source something that would do the job, unless it’s one of those weird half metal speakers as we have no idea about those...Aloominum? Always here to help.

  10. Chaps to add clarity - this isn't replacing the current standard ABM 600 EVO IV. This is replacing the rack ABM 600-RC that we stopped making a year or two back.

Since then we have been constantly asked to reintroduce a rackable ABM head, mainly by artists but plenty of weekend warriors have asked too. So this is for those guys and girls where size is less of a concern and the focus is tone, power and reliability...

I really love the classic look of the Ashdown CTM300 head but unfortunately it's just not in my price range at the moment. To tide me over until I can save up a couple of grand, I decided that I'd try to at least achieve the look of the amp even if I can't get the sound of it right now.

I've spent my spare time over the last week building this new case from scratch for my ABM 500rc Evo iii and I'm really pleased with the result so thought I'd share it here. 🙂

Just picked up a B-stock head of Doom to try out.

Never been the biggest Ashdown fan in the world but always wanted to love them. But I think that's down to meeting their products in beaten up states in rehearsal rooms and venues on their last legs around the country.

The Head of Doom is quite the piece of engineering. An absolutely phenomenal head that sounds great and is beautifully made and has head room for miles. Can't wait to gig it. It's absolutely beautiful, loud. It's next level.

    Cheers Ryan.

So, long story short.... I drove through to the Ashdown offices, had my amp repaired, had a lovely chat with with Guy and wasn't charged a penny!!!!

I started off with Trace Elliot amps, then switched to Ashdown (that glorious silver faced unit) then made a brief move to an American brand, and then returned to Ashdown... This trip to the source aside, I can't see myself moving again.

Thank you so much Guy and company for not only your stellar service, but the amazing relationship you have built. Love you all...

Thanks, good to hear we got you sorted.

This looks lovely in red - no offence to the man in question (Shavo) but I would want it without his name across the front.

Am I right in thinking @Ashdown Engineering that this is very similar to the HOD but without the extra speaker outs?

Yes but the Shavo has the compressor too so a little different.... January will bring what you desire however
