  1. Hi All,

I'm now the new owner of a Hofner Contemporary Violin Bass :) and am now looking for a hardcase for it -nothing special, but ideally "shaped" and designed for the bass.

The problem I have is that after a lot of searching I have found that there are quite a few different manufacturers and worst of all I've learned that some of the violin basses will not fit properly into some of the hardcases made specifically for them without trimming and fettling of the sponge.

Is there a hardcase specifically for the Contemporary Violin Bass? If any of you guys have the same bass which hardcase are you using?

I'm only looking for a £60ish version and ideally one that is in stock ready to post!!

    Any ideas? Any info appreciated.

  2. Wow thanks for that!! I didn't realise anyone in this country did them at that price as none showed up when I was doing searches. Would anyone recommend Chamberlain?

Finally, does anyone in this country do the Hofner Ignition bass at competitive 'european' prices? Chamberlain don't list them.

    TIA.

  3. Hi All,

What should I expect to pay for a Hofner Contemporary Violin bass which is as new and about a year old? Antique sunburst in colour -does not come with a case.

    Any ideas anyone?

  4. Hello Everyone,

I have for sale my Fender Precision MIJ which I have been kindly informed by a BC'er is a PB-551 model. It also comes with a rectangular case. It is in good original condition with only three small dings. It does need a new set of strings.

It is only because of an on-going shoulder injury that it is for sale so that I can look for something lighter!!

For sale at £425 (plus carriage if required).

I have added some pics but if you would like some more it can easily be arranged.

  5. Following on from my earlier post concerning me considering a violin bass due to a shoulder injury I have realised that the problem is not so severe when I move my existing basslines so that they fall, wherever possible, between the 5th and 12th fret on my existing bass. This is maybe to do with keeping my arm straight in front rather than reaching down to the nut end of the neck - if that makes sense.

This has left me asking, apart from the violin basses, are there any other short (or even very short) scale basses that are also very light that would suit my needs?

Once again, quality and sound of the bass are not too important, even if they are 'cheap' as long as they're playable and readily available -even secondhand. The band I'm with are just happy to have a bass player producing a bass sound so any bass sound at all is better than none. I would prefer a bass that is in proportion rather than one with a normal body and a short neck!!

I have come across an Epiphone EB-0 but have no idea how much they weigh.

Has anyone any ideas what else might I consider?

    TIA

I'm not experienced enough nor have I tried many basses to determine whether or not the basses I have are good players. There is no fret rattle on either of them but as far as the set up of them is concerned I have no idea what a well set upbass should sound like. I took them out of the box and played them. Neither have been adjusted or modified as I have owned them both from new!

    How do I check playability?

  7. Wow!! Thanks for all the information everyone.

I've had my Fender precision 'Malcolm' model all these years and knew virtually nothing about it!! (OK only joking) Now I do.

I got it in the first instance because I liked the look of it and it played well!!

    Thanks again.

  8. Cheers Guys!!

First-Mid 80's Fender Precision Bass. Black. Rosewood fingerboard, black head and tuners. Mid '80's. Japan. Three very, very small damaged areas. Needs new strings. With hard rectangular case.

Second- Hohner B2a headless bodiless. In red. Active.Recent new strings. Just about like new. Does have a home-made wooden case- useful but in all fairness is heavy and scruffy!.

    I'll upload some pics shortly!!

  9. I have a couple of basses that I am about to sell to fund my next bass, however, I have looked all over the 'net for some idea of values but prices seem to be all over the place especially with one of mine as it doesn't have chrome fittings like most of the ones I've seen so this might affect it's value.

Where might I look to get the most accurate values as I don't want to overprice them, neither do I want to give them away!!

    Any pointers appreciated.

  10. That's certainly something to think about!!

Finally, what is the best way to value the two basses that I need to sell? Is there anywhere in particular online?

I have a red active Hohner B2a and an '85 ish Black Fender (Japan) Precision.

    Any info appreciated.
