Hiya all,
I have this Precision Bass, which is great, And i love it, But due to having my other favorite precision bass already, this was really just excess of want over need,
I've done a few things to it over time, I've Relic-d it slightly on the edges but is still in decent condition if you wanted to Repaint and Refinish, And the pick-guard used to be White, hence the wear around the pickup thumb-rest area.

Im not 100% percent sure which parts on this are the original fender, the headstock was refinished, brass nut fitted (more sustain) and a new Decal applied, there is a thin gap between the join on the body and the neck, it seems that either the neck was not from the same model as the neck or vice versa, this does not at all effect the sound or resonance of the bass, purely cosmetic, the body was originally Red, refinished in Black Matt over the top, Great rough look as it is, or a great platform, single black coat means easy sanding down to paint a new colour.

I've completely overhauled the electronics and put all the best parts in, Electronics all together cost me around £50 for the wiring / pots, and Put in The Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder, around £50 i think i got that for.
It also has the old vintage type flat-top (Telecaster type) knobs, in Black and a matching Fender Bridge and Bridge Cover.

[b]Im not sure what i want in terms of cash for this, but i would prefer a trade, for maybe a jazz type something half decent or perhaps a 5 string, but no Ibanez' or Death Metal basses, haha sorry just not my bag.
Also will consider Double Basses, 3\4 size or EUB, EDB's... Just because thats something i really fancy getting into.[/b]

So, for years i've been instinctively learning slap bass, and i never thought i had the right technique, (although there is no definite right) but i don't suck too bad... but now i've properly been shown the best way to play with the upward turned thumb,
Before i was playing down-thumb,

And i know if i want to get better at slap im going to need to change, but it sucks balls, I've spent all that time, wasted and now its like learning to slap all over again, but its got to be done,

So anyone have any good riffs or songs that will help me get better faster, Obviously the solo from "You can call me Al"
And also i've been relearning Smooth criminal.

but preferably others that use all the strings (4 in my case) and include pops and hammer-ons etc, I feel so inadequate at slap bass again all of a sudden though

I've got a P bass... I've got a P bass...

Realistically, I would ask about £400 - 410... maybe a bit more, I've seen a few of these on eBay, active ones going for about £430 and passive usually anywhere between £350 and £420 really depending on condition, Mint ones circa £400, and those "Power Basses" occasionally go for more.

Although i did try getting one imported from the US a year or so ago, In Red, was going for £350 but would add another £100 or so to get it shipped and through customs... damn.

I must ask though, is it the type with the black headstock? or does it have the full black neck front and back? love those ones... *drool*

I havent had a chance to try one of those yet,

Im guessing its somewhere between a high end MIM and a standard MIA.

So should be pretty decent, that said i'm sure theres someone on here who can give you more info on that model

I shouldn't try and influence you... But they do have a roger waters P Bass on there decently priced tried that, was lovely,
And The 50's Mexican P Basses

Or an aerodyne, But these are all combinations of P Bass pickups... and just me wishing i had more money.

If thats where you absolutely have to shop,
I would suggest emailing them asking if they can order you in one specially, Most stores will,

Or if its your local store go in and personally ask them, they usually require around a 10% deposit, But as with any bass youre probably better off going and trying one somewhere first or you might not like it in the end,
As decent as the quality is of these "classic series" Fenders is.

I dont own, but have played a few from this range, Loved the 70's classic, was between that and an ibanez when i was an amateur and because of the £300 price difference ended up being a cheap bastard and settling for the ibanez, which proved to be the worst musical mistake i ever made, hence now why i have a grudge against all things ibanez,

but it sounded so good in the shop... sigh.

As for the 60's one, definitely a warmer tone quality to it, thats probably got something to do with what you were saying about pickup spacing from the bridge etc. This one i likes a lot better than the 70's,

But both are good and represent reasonable value for money, especially if you can get hold of a preowned one.

50's Mexican Fender Precision Reissue.

The best bass i have owned without a doubt, sound and playability.
They are genuinely great instruments although i must admit the build dimensions and shapes (especially neck shapes) vary wildly in mexican Fenders, even in the same models, but this is what makes each instrument unique in a way, might feel totally different, but thats not really a bad thing, chances are its still an awesome bass to play and to listen to.

EDIT: I paid £500 for mine in september, (On sale) Which is overpriced, But to me, WORTH EVERY PENNY.

I Like it... Apart from the Headstock Shape and Machine Heads,

If they were the "Classic Shape" like on the Gibson EB-0's and the machine heads were proper open gear ones i would be interested, but those things put me off, as good as it may sound.

...I dont see why [b]increase[/b] the body size and [b]decrease[/b] the size of the headstock and put silly tuners on it...

I love these basses and have been considering one, The basic California P Bass, (Well until i checked today... Now they're calling it the California Vs)

But, i don't know how to go about ordering one, With a custom finish etc.
For example, can i order directly from Sandberg or through a dealer?

And I know the prices for these are roughly around £900 - £1000 plus shipping and import tax etc. i'm assuming. But what will modifications increase the price by?
And i've had a look at their online price list, but i'm not sure how out of date that is.

I dont know if it will be of any help but the only custom modifications, if you will are that i want the entire bass black, Headstock, Neck etc. and the Pickguard-less version, so much like the so called "Jazz Bass Specials" from the 80's (Duff McKagan)
This one on their website is similar but, Without the MM pickup and Paintjob.

I agree the price of MIM standard Fender basses is mad.

But for less than that Matt Freeman signature, (which will be hit / miss judging by Squiers reputation) you can probably get on the sale section here and get a lovely Fender Precision in good nick,
plus you know most of the time you're buying something decent from someone decent.

You could find a genuine fender on Ebay or on here for a lot less and would be a lot nicer,

I was interested in this bass until i saw the price, And the specs aren't even very good,

And one of those Squier Cheapo bridges that seem to be popping up on every new bass, although it might be approved by Matt Freeman, because he's being paid, and endorsed, the bass doesn't seem to be good value for money. Even £300 would be too much, unless it had an extra special pickup and bridge Like Quarter pounder and a Badass.

For sale, This Brand new, used once pedalboard bought in store at Andertons in Guildford, back in February.

Fantastic Board, my only reason for selling is that i've realised its too big for me, i don't use enough effects to warrant a pedalboard of this size so, regretfully i'm downsizing to a single row of pedals.

It will be supplied with everything that came with it, i.e, the Board, Soft-case, Power Supply and 10x Cables, 8 normal polarity, 1 reversed, 1 9v Cable.

Works really well, and is very sturdy but lightweight.

I'm looking for [s]£70[/s] [b]£50[/b] for this, which is great since its practically brand new and they retail at around £100.
I can accept collection from outside Guildford, (Godalming Area) or i can probably post for around another £10.

Most phasers seem to just tear the balls out of your bass tone, this one is just pure awesome.

...Of course having a high end Jazz bass with brand new strings is always helpful too.

Im saving up for the Terror bass after playing one many times in store,

Other than that, i would be tempted to fork out extra cash for some form of Ampeg,
or find a Reasonably priced second hand one on eBay in good condition,

i havent heard a lot about this amp head, but i'm assuming its similar to the SVT-450h, so solid state,
I havent played many Ampegs but the ones i have have been valve heads and were fantastic,
Never played on a purely solid state one.

and yeah i think also its doubtful theres much tone improvement... Probably as you all suggested helps more with string spacing issues, etc.

So i was looking to buy some new saddles for a really old bass since the little height adjustment screws are old, rusty and stripped, And i came across a bridge with these "knurled saddles" and i have them on my mexican 50's precision, fender claims that they improve the tone in some way,

Is this the possible mysterious reason why i think the 50's p basses sounds so much better than a standard mexican ones?
For anyone who has no clue what i'm on about, heres a pic.



And does anyone know where i can get a set of four bridge saddles on their own without the baseplate? (Knurled or Not, im not bothered) haha

because the bass i'm changing the saddles on is a Japanese Jazz copy made by a company called Morris, and the baseplate isn't fender standard size, The saddles however are. I shall enclose a picture below,

I have a fender precision for which i need a single Saddle piece, Im not bothered if its real fender or copy, but ive searched everywhere on the internet for bridge saddles alone, and i don't fancy replacing the whole bridge,

Anyone know of a source for one?

I'll post a picture of the problem, i need one preferably cheap and fast.

I've sort of answered my own question but really appreciate someone setting me straight on the whole Ohms rating system... haha
Just want to make sure i make the right decision... its a lot of cash... especially for a student like me... Of course i have tried out the terror and it was ace, just cant test volume in the shop. haha

Probably end up with the 500watt head and the 610,
If i ever needed more i could always upgrade to the 1000watt, and then a compact 115 underneath the 610.

And @ icastle... your rig can NEVER be big enough! hahaha

although the 610 isn't the most practical cab for small gigs, i'm guessing it will hold up well in the larger ones, Someone with some experience of using this cab.... or another like it can enlighten me, I believe Ampeg do something similar?

Im not sure i'll really need the extra 500watt, although it does seem to vary by brand and model...
From what i've heard the 500watt Terror is really loud,

And yeah, the 8 x 10 would probably be a bit much effort, But similarly the 410 + 115 combination probably would too, I wouldn't really like buying both, and just leaving one sitting lonely in my house... lol
So i know id end up using it...

perhaps the 610 would be more practical, something of a compromise between the other options...
