1.
Chiming in with my sound engineer hat on: DON'T get a single coil magnetic pickup for an acoustic guitar. Loads of people have them, for some inexplicable reason, and they nearly always buzz like a bastard as soon as you get them anywhere near any lights. When I am president they will be made illegal, and anyone turning up a gig expecting to use one will be burnt at the stake. Humbucking ones are fine.
Thanks for that piece of info. I really do not want to inflict amplified buzzing on anyone. :)

  2.
The LR Baggs M1 Active is my favourite. Really great sound, adjustable pole pieces and a quick and hassle-free installation :-)
Thanks ske21. I have heard many good reports of the LR Baggs M1 and M80. The only reason I haven't just gone out and got one of them is the price! When ah were a lad ah could ave bought five guitars for t' price o' one o' them! On the other hand, I realise there is always an element of you get what you paid for.

  3. Does anyone have any recommendations for soundhole pickups for an acoustic guitar? I have a nice Ayers AS that I got a few years ago with no intention of ever using it amplified. Of course, now I want to use it amplified, but I don't want to go drilling holes in it. So, what actually works and doesn't produce feedback and gives a halfway ok sound?

    Thanks,

    John
Gus sold Gus my old BCR CS Eagle, was part of a sudden three-way deal that had to happen fast or not at all, and Gus was a total star :) Made the decision and paid instantly, heck of a friendly and funny guy to communicate with. Just wouldn't happen anywhere else than here. Cheers fella!
I was the other party in the three-way deal, and Gus was great to deal with. Thanks!

  5. Hi folks,

Does anyone know where I might be able to try out a Kinal MK-B? I'm considering getting one as part of a trade, but it's a long way away. So it's a damn cheeky request, but I'd like to try one out that was a bit closer to home, to see how it feels. Maybe some shop somewhere has one? Or perhaps some proud Kinal owner would like to do their bit to tempt me into the Kinal ownership club? I live in London, but regularly travel to Bristol, so anywhere between the two would be great.

    Many thanks,

    John

I've decided to sell my fretless Wal, since I hardly play it these days, and I need some cash. It's a Mk.I Custom, built in 1986, serial no. W2691. It has a body of Brazilian mahogany with American walnut facings, an unlined Indian ebony fingerboard (with side dots), and gold hardware. As far as I can tell, it is all original. It's in good condition, but not cosmetically perfect: there are some areas of wear on the top, some buckle marks on the back, and a few other dents and scratches. All the electronics are working, with even volume across the strings. I think it looks better in real life than in these photos, but I don't have a digital camera good enough for the job. Sadly there is no matching Wal hardcase, but it comes with a Rockbag softcase.

I'm looking for £1995, and the buyer will have to collect from London (Kennington area). If you have a decent quality small practice amp looking for a home, I'd consider a part-exchange deal. And although I really shouldn't, I might even consider a part-exchange deal for a nice mid-range fretted 5- or 6-string. Please PM me if you are interested.

    John
