Thrillho_12 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Just a thread for people to share some problems they faced in this phase of their bass playing lives - but more importantly, their solutions! It can be an overwhelming time, but to quote the Simpsons: "Did you know the Chinese use the same word for crisis as they do for opportunity?" "Crisitunity!" At the moment I'm doing the chord tones essentials course from Talking Bass, trying to develop my ear and am dragging friends along to practice rooms. I think these are all positive steps! One thing I know I need to address is using Tab Videos as a crutch to learning new tunes. I became conscious of just playing along to these - becoming almost like an advanced Guitar Hero or Rocksmith experience. Trying to remedy this by going off-book as much as possible, charting out songs (which I currently suck at) and developing my musical memory, but any tips, stories and advice from those with more experience is very welcome. P.S. I know the proper answer is probably finding a teacher, but I've tried two different teachers thus far and not really gelled with either. Hopefully third time is the charm when I have a bit more expendable income. ("When" pfft.) 1 Quote
