Customizing a pickguard

I've bought an A4 mirror chrome adhesive sheet to cover a jazz bass pickguard. It's just an experience. Do you reckon it will work? Has anyone ever done this before? Tips? (I'm particularly worried about how I'm gonna trim the edges...)

I've posted this thread on the repairs section but I think it's not in the right place (site admin please feel free to delete the other thread)
