Phillips made me redundant over 30 years ago and I've not bought anything sold by them since.

    Same here Jean-Luc Pickguard, but,

I was not made redundant by Philips. I managed to survive all of their moronic management, but they

left their mark. I couldn't possibly have anything in the house that bears the name Philips

That's all I ever wanted to do. Playing bass was the one thing, only thing, I could imagine doing for the rest of my life. In the late 60's we had a chance of making  a "living", but now I'm no so sure. Most of the pro musicians I know are teaching or running their own non music related businesses.

The week I left school I joined a pro band. It was tough, see-sawing between everything and nothing. Trying to make it, then not making it. You have to be resilient to deal with the constant ups and downs but I never regretted that decision for one minute. Now I know, being "pro" is a frame of mind, and it never leaves you.

After 6 years of some success and a lot of failure, I finally jumped ship and joined the early days of the IT industry. That was almost as mad as some of the bands I played with.

Mine's quite a similar story Chris, full time music was like the garden of Eden. Loved the playing part  but the apple and the serpents bit was tuff and far from glamorous.

Enjoyed the ever changing IT industry, (mostly before it was known as IT) but even staying qualified in an IT day job was as you say as mad as the music biz,

as one great company is gobbled up by a bigger fish.

Very happy to play at the weekend

When i have a gig and the drummer is brain dead and has no respect for the music, volume, feel or tempo, or any band member for that matter, it can drain all my enthusiasm and mojo. When this musical scribbling happens my tone may as well count for nothing as its either getting drowned out or I cant play the parts I want to, how I want to.

The best tone I get with complete satisfaction with the best consistency is when I'm working at home through a sh*tty little £15.00 off ebay practice amp, at low volume. Be it twiddling or working out new material for gigs playing along to youtube ect its always very good. But then all the other conditions that effect tone at gigs are not there and I'm in control of the environment!

    Happy new year to everyone.

I still think that keyboard player is a twat.

Yes, and some singers also fall into that category, they can tell you how to play almost
any instrument, But can play f**k all themselves. KB players can be odious individuals.

Changing the subject ! Great gig last night at the Robin, really enjoyed it.
Saw you at the pre gig pub but the dj sound prevented alot of what we do in pubs over
good beer, Talk, well done Pete,

  5. LEAVE,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it's got his name on it which means you'll never be part of the deal anyway. It does not matter
how much work you put in, how many gigs you do for naff all, how many sacrifices you make, your name name will never
be on it and so when the money finally does come (hits head with mic stand) you probably won't get it anyway.

    best of luck
