I agree - Paul's work is every bit as good as anything that came out of the Wal workshops in the past, and he was there in person for many years, as you rightly say. You can still order a bass with the same or very similar specs as mine, but this one does mark the end of an era in Wal production with Pete's passing, which is why I suggested it might be considered 'special'. Whether it is or not is entirely the up to you, of course - as the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder! :)

This information that Pete has passed is new to me. Are you sure? When did this happen? Did you mean Ian?

    Hi Folks

Just got home and now have a drink in my hand to unwind, so all good... :)

So.. where to start other than to say thank you to everyone for coming and making it such a great day; those from Nottingham, Birmingham, East Anglia - wow!! Special mentions for 51m0n, jakesbass, bassace, mcgraham & TomKent for doing their brilliant, brilliant workshops.. :) Mark & Tom were very patient as things ran way over time, so thanks guys for being so understanding!

Big thanks also to Hamster & Mrs Hamster for sorting out all the food & drinks and to Merton for sorting out the Raffle - both of which have contributed to the funds raised for good causes (see Colin's update above)..

The was so much good stuff happening all day that it's difficult to cite any one thing in particular as standing out, but i must just say that the vibe in the Jam Room this year was extra special.. Paul The Drums, silddx & Stingray 5 were brilliant and especially when they got seashell (Shelly) involved in the jam!

Gear wise, loads to see and admire, but mcgraham's Wood & Tronics 5 was just awesome, as was Alex's Barefaced 2x12 - very GAS-worthy indeed!...anyway, more on that later.

Lots of photos to look at and upload, many taken by Loraine (Mrs Silverfoxnik) and thanks to her for taking them and thanks also to everyone there who made her feel so welcome!

Nik - Who ended up being the winner? Any pics?

Personally, I reckon that Jaco, Wooten, Marcus Miller and Richard Bona are all over-rated. I have Jaco's solo album and I've heard Heavy Weather. Didn't do anything for me I'm afraid. The Beetle (VW) sounds the same everytime I hear him. I have the Yin Yang CD and some Flecktones stuff and play them every now and again. I end up turning it off after about 5 minutes. Marcus Miller has a great tone with his slap style but then the compostions are all a bit vanilla. I've heard that Bona makes people cry with his playing, but personally does nothing for me.

Each of these guys has a legion of fans and is highly respected it's just that their music doesn't move me at all.
Very, very overrated; lousy music - definitely no soul whatsoever. I'll take a good simple bass groove in the pocket of a nice melody anytime!

I was there with my friend, Nik - silverfoxnik on this forum! First time for me as I am from the States. Did we talk? I'm back now in Arizona. Had a wonderful stay.
