  1. Hi,

I have MM fretted 5 Stringray (1993, 22 frets).  I have been recently moving to playing fretless, via a converted 4 string Ibanez SR. (works Ok).  However, I would like to move to a 5 string fretless for the low B option.  I can either buy a Status carbon fibre neck for the MM for about £400 all in or get a 2nd hand 5 string fretless Ibanez/cort for about the same money.  ( No I am not ripping out the frets in the MM neck).  I am thinking more about the new neck as I get to play the MM which is being neglected and I can't bear to sell her etc, and it means I don't have to sneak another bass into the house.

    Any comments .....

  2. The Geek - if you haven;t used a router before, I would buy a cheap bass and practice first.  It's very easy to make a mess, ( I got a carpenter to do that bit) and check out different string holders for the head. The cheap ones are intended for guitars, so wont take a full E string binding/diameter, and can easily break a bass string.  (That's why I had to put posts in and put a single string wind in before the holder/clamp).

Andy  "enough" - yep your right, I would have preferred the red or black version to start on but, this marble came up close and cheap so....

The trouble is this is a laminate coating, so to get the coating off to repaint would be a nightmare.  Laminate because the body is made up of three pieces of wood,  a hard mahogany type, a composite ?? More glue than wood, and a soft wood (pine ???).   So Pea it's not made of marble, although it does weigh a ton.

BassApp. For the mark king look I would need about another 30 knobs and switches, but yep I know what you mean. thanks

  3. I wanted a medium scale headless bass for just slinging in the car when I am out and about.

This GIO came up £100  - so maybe a little expensive, but in good condition.

So new bridge (hohner), pick up Kent Armstrong, hard ware - black, new switch series/parallel, tone circuit, finger ramp - I am in the process of making a new one.

Frets levelled, neck refinished, new strings.

The Gio went from a neck heavy bass to now better balanced on a strap, and plays ok, vs Plek'd SR1400 - so maybe I am not really comparing like to like there.

Same weight  - bridge is soooo heavy.

Nice bass now - but still only worth - £100 quid, oh well - next project.

  4. Hi,

I have an older SR1400 with a 2 position EQ switch and active/passive switch.  I would like to upgrade this to the 3 position EQ and more importantly the active/passive switch with the passive tone control.

I am sure that most of the circuit in mine is very similar to the upgraded version maybe an extra jumper  lead etc (and different switch), but it's difficult to tell without a detailed picture of the new bass circuit and music stores have been funny with me opening up their stock basses and pocking around.

So I am interested if any one has an info/details pictures of the 3 position switch version circuit or is selling their Ibanez SR Preamp etc.

    Thanks

    Rob

  5. Hi, I have a black Rally Explorer (Thunderbolt) for sale or bass/guitar/effect related trades. For trades something less, well just less. Tele or semi acoustic, any basses or effects/ amp heads considered.

Guitar seems very well built and is clean, reasonably new strings, and all seems to work and comes with a soft case and strap. Small dent on top and a larger dent (What I would call large) on rear - see pics. (Testing possible)

Passive electronics.(Non smoking and non pet home)
Based in Raunds and Hinckley and can travel to arrange exchange. No shipment I would rather keep it than have DPD destroy it.

He is some going for it on one

    or a review

In general a good guitar - just a little to pointy.

    Please Email with offer.

    Thanks

    Rob

  6. Two Ibanez SR upgrades,

SR800 fretless conversion. Carbon fibre fretboard thanks Sean Howard from fatdog guitars. New through body bridge, new pickups (Ebay  - nothing special), smoother shape, new electronics (Ebay  - very unspecial), and now 6 bolts on neck. Still alittle more setting up to do etc but playable now . Before and after pics.

SR1400. 6 bolt neck + metal back plate + gold knobs + ebony scratch plate and modified neck + gold strap locks - ace.

    Now back to playing.
