1.
I agree, I loved his more melodic stuff, in fact I'm inclined to download an album now to listen to while I get some Uni work done today. My ex ended up with the vinyl, many moons ago.

So what should it be? Running in the Family? In pursuit of Accidents?

You could influence my decision here guys :)
Standing In The Light

  2. I know Level 42 conjures up images of white socks and Golf GTI's but I still like a lot of their stuff and saw them live twice in the eighties....second time he did a solo version of Heathrow which was good

  3. Thought I'd pretty much heard everything by The Smiths...then I discovered this little gem hiding on a b-side......man listen to that bass

Mr Rouke you are a legend sir.

Johnny Marr ain't too shabby either :)...another hero of mine

  4. Just found this on Youtube.

I was doing a search for Mick Karn and discovered this little gem.

I think Del Palmer played on the original but Mick Karn just adds a whole new dimension to one of Kate's best non single releases.

The Princes trust was really a great idea. Where else could you see Mick Karn, Pete Townsend & Midge Ure together.

  6.
If the Alan Murphy mentioned is the same guy who played for Go West, he was great. I used to work with his cousin, so very sadly I knew he wasn't long for this planet. Great player.
Saw him play with Level 42 at the back end of the eighties.....he didn't look well at all then.

  7. Beyond the obivious hits...I always loved 'Bad Reputation' with the incredible drumming & 'Chinatown' and with 'Dancing In The Moonlight' you have one of the most famous bass intros ever.

When I was in Ireland recently, I walked passed Howth cemetary and had no idea he was buried there till after I'd come back......doh!

  9. I used to take Lessons but can no longer afford it.

Can anyone recommend a site that has decent online lessons for nowt.

I'd really like to do the Guy Pratt one on www.icanplayit.com as the example looks very entertaining and he's a very funny bloke but I haven't got £30 spare at the mo.

  10.
I am learning the bassline in Narada Michael Walden's 'I Shoulda Loved Ya'. Just because I like it.
I've never heard of this but having just looked it up on youtube...it's rather funky!

  11. Just heard a copy of Bowie at the Beeb recorded in 2000 and it\\\'s nothing short of brilliant.

What struck me was the fantastic playing by Gail Ann Dorsey. Her re-working of Ashes to Ashes is just fantastic and for me it\\\'s exactly what a bass should sound like.

Makes me want to break out my air-bass, Alan Partridge style on the train this morning!
