Laura Lee from Khruangbin uses an SX Jazz Bass live and has done from start. Don’t know if it is modded in any way.

Given their increasing popularity in the past few years I wonder if Fender have ever been in touch 🤔

    She had the pickups replaced.

What's also surprising in the budget theme of the discussion, is that she doesn't have effects either, just a tuner. And in the video she says she uses it because it anchors her cable near the mic.

I saw a local blues trio the other month, and the bassist absolutely nailed it.

He was also using the SX jazz, also just the tuner and he didn't know about her. So in a week I found two people using exact same setups independent of one another.

He was even just using the house amp, so none of that "This is my unique tone" kind of thing.

Those SX guitars are bloody good. I just got a 5 string Warwick-alike the other day and it's probably £200 too cheap for how it plays.

I’ve seen comments here and there that the necks are nice on these, can anyone shed any light on the neck profiles on them? I mean the front to back thickness mainly. If anyone is able to measure with calipers just before the 1st fret that would be really helpful. Are they on the slim or chunky side of a P neck? Thanks

    About 22mm

    Hey, yes it's still available.

I'm in St Albans so can pop over quite easily.

Would an evening or daytime collection work best for you?

Also, how soon do you want it gone?  In can do evenings in the next two days (11-12th Aug) or during daytime from Tuesday (16th)

    Cheers.

    Yes that’s Simon Amthons

He was an old school bass player

    Definitely worth preserving his signature

Perhaps seek the advice of a sympathetic luthier who knows what he’s doing

    Good luck

    Thank you so much.

Do you have any background info on him or know where I can find more?

I'm glad I checked.  I was worried that someone had gotten the neck signed by a hero of theirs and I didn't want to just erase history like they did with the Squier serial.

I'll do what I need to preserve it or make sure it ends up with someone that will appreciate it.

  6. I picked up a dirt cheap Squier JB that someone made a godawful attempt to add a fender decal to. Looked like my first airfix attempt.

I got the guitar mainly to learn repairs and modding without risking my others, and was wondering if anyone knew the person who signed it.

Wondered if there was any back story to them putting a bit of effort into making an Affinity look a bit like a much older jazz, like a '72 or similar.

Probably just some teen but I was curious and thought I'd check around, before I sanded it down.

    Cheers.
