Yeah, I imagine once the 2023 MXs come out they'll have to discount it even more heavily to shift it.

Hope so. This Sad has been on their website among tonnes of half priced Chinese made for quite a long time and they cannot move it. They still want to stick to this high price, but I assume too at some point they have to drop it. This series is gone and will not have a revival year like any classic Stingray, Sabre, or 60s jazzes etc.. It is exceptional bass, but kinda dead. For 1500 you could get a G&L USA or Sandberg with much higher resale value.

     not quite correct...

Sadowsky Japan had two original ranges - the higher end Japan only Sadowsky TYO and the Sadowsky Metro which were available over here. I think they were manufactured by ESP.

At some point the line that were Sadowsky Metro with "Sadowsky Guitars" on the headstock became known and labelled as Sadowsky Metroline with I don't think any differences other than ones that affected all sadowskys- I can't remember anyone saying anything negative about them (other than the price went up, but it was the post Brexit pound devaluation that caused that).

Roger then wanted to make a cheaper line again - which was the Japanese Sadowsky Metro Express which were built by a Japanese factory for him that wasn't the same dedicated workshop as was doing the construction of the original Japanese Sadowsky. I'm not entirely sure what happened, whether there were too many QC issues being caught or they just couldn't make enough of them fast enough but they didn't last long.

Then our friend Mr Wilfer got involved and everything changes, all the hardware is different and presumably made to different price points for different ranges - so you no have the odd Sadowsky NYC from Roger's workshop and then the German made Sadowsky Custom Shop, Sadowsky Masterbuilt and Sadowsky Metroline, and the much cheaper Sadowsky Metro Express made in China.

All correct, and just one thing to add. There was no QC issue with MIJ Metroexpress but rather production on a larger scale and distribution. Warwick seemed to be the best solution for Roger as they have all the facilities in Germany and China and massive distribution capacity and connections (Thomann etc...) I am sad to see the MIJ Metroexpress go as they a way better construction than the Chinese ones. The headstock logo was the same ,the hardware and electronics also, and the necks had graphite bars....All of them gone now and it is super hard to find any used for sale.

    Yeah. My thoughts exactly.

    Assembled.

Correct. It is just marketing and actually they assemble the amp from Chinese or Korean made components. However, the quality can be still equally good as anything else that was made in the USA or UK from domestic components (if that business still exist…)

  4. Just reminds me how great sound I got from my good old SVT4 pro before I traded it (with great regret).

This might be a silly question, but does the preamp have 3 tubes and the power amp is solid state just like the SVT4 pro?

There is also the Sansamp RPM which is a general instrument pre-amp but it works great on bass. This is because the RPM has a parametric mids control which is always a great feature to when sculpting a tone. I think I would actually personally go for the RPM over the RBI but really both would be great units.

There is also a PSA-1 in the classifieds here which has loads of programmable presets for different guitar and bass tones.

Just reading the specs of them...so great stuff . Thanks again!

The Bass Driver/RBI like many of our SansAmps can be set clean. Because they are emulating the sound of a vintage tube amp many demos focus on the more over driven sounds. The reason we have the Blend up all the way in many sample settings is simple, vintage tube amps have no Blend control. The Blend control was part of the original design conception and goes back to how bass guitar used to be recorded in a studio setting. The bass guitar would go to a DI and the direct signal went to the board and the through of the DI went to a mic'd bass amp and both signals were "blended" at the board. It was a composite sound. In most settings whether live or in the studio the bass is DI'd these days.

Your clean sound with our SansAmps will depend upon how much headroom you are playing with. With less headroom you will tend to play harder and hit the circuit harder. If you want no amp emulation you can turn the Blend all the way off and now you have a DI with EQ.

Wow! Sounds like an excellent customer service from the producer! I am glad to hear this confirmation. I checked the rating of possible power-amps and I think I'd have enough clean headroom to play sensibly without distortion. I think an 800watts cab with a bridged power-amp provides enough headroom for clean sound too. The RBI has started to grow on me now....Thanks for the input guys!

  7. Cheers Thodrik,

I agree. They’re great stuff, and it would be the best to try and hear the sound  when the blend control is turned down for a transparent sound.

If the amp doesn’t lose the bottom end and the clean ‘thickness’ remains there without colouring or overdriving the tone,it would be the deal for me.

    Thanks for you input.
