  1. This looks like an early, 2 module NTMB preamp. If your bass still has the early drop shoulder spec duals, mating them to a TCT will get that bass the closest you can get it back to the Hollywood era sound. The biggest thing missing is the Tobias specific mid module that was used for the Tobias TCT circuit. It allowed much more tunability to the mid boost including being able to set how far the bottom of the boost shelf reached into the low mids, as well as creating a tuneable, separate treble boost shelf controlled by the mid knob. You can achieve the treble boost tuneability if you use the 3MC 3 way mid module that has the stock 2K-15K treble circuit separated which means you can bypass it and create your own/one more like the Tobias circuit.

It might be that a decent preamp is all you need. It is possible that the pickup will be just fine and dandy.

I definitely found that to be the case with mine! One other thing I did was change the pickup wiring to parallel (comes wired series stock) to get an even better OG Stingray tone. That paired with a Bart NTBT preamp was 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

Looking to upgrade the pickup and preamp in my MTD Kingston, but it seems to be an odd size - 50mmx105mm

Anyone know of any off the shelf pickups that would fit. Would like to pair it with a Spector Tonepump if that helps.

    Thanks!

If it was a non-Bart Kingston bass, the Bartolini MK size is about as close to the stock size as you can get. Another good option would be to route for EMGs and put a TCT pre in there 😉
