I've got one too. I like it with the gain below 10-11 o'clock - it needs a blend at high gain to stop it turning to mush IMHO. Bags of low end though, and sounds great with a pick!

The low gain tones can be heard at 1:40 and 6:37.

Is this still available for sale?

I'd recommend an on-board preamp like a Bart or Aguilar. They can be had for right around your budget, especially on ebay and other assorted discounts from online vendors.

I've gotten a bunch of PM's and emails wanting to hear this, so here ya go
Enjoy mates
As always - comments, opinions, complaints, are all welcome

Yes, you can run a Stingray passive. The pickup is not an active pickup and works just fine without the preamp. In fact, my Stingray has a bypass switch installed in the volume pot so that it can work without batteries. There is no significant volume differences between passive/active on my bass... but that's because of the settings I use. If you were to boost the EQ controls a lot, you'd notice a difference.

The only thing you modified was the volume pot for active/passive? Is it a push/pull?
I'm really interested in doing this.
I don't want to replace anything except install an option for active/passive. I've built musicman style frankenbasses before all wired for passive, but I want to take my actual MM and keep everything stock except what's necessary for active/passive operation.
Any wiring diagrams or info you could help me out with? -
Thanks man, glad you appreciate it.

Lol. Sorry if my playing gets on a few peoples nerves.
Seriously though, all criticism is taken to heart and I will definitely slow things down. Yes, my incessant doodling can get carried away but like BigBassBob said - it really comes down to style and personal taste.
One of the reasons I DO tend to play fast is for exactly the reasons you guys stated above - I try to throw anything I can at them (especially dirt pedals) to see if they can stay articulate without turning to mush. -
3M duallock is awesome. Sometimes it's actually TOO strong but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Did you ever get chance to review the Triumvirate out of interest? If not have you by any chance compared to a Rat Tail as far as available sounds? Know they're quite different pedals but I'd be interested to hear what you think if you've heard both.

I do have the triumvirate and will put it on the list for a demo! -
