1. Hiya Everyone, so I am thinkin about my Christmas Box this year and I have hit upon a problem.

I used to own a Boss GT6-B which was a fanastic piece of kit and one of those things you always regret selling..

I am really wanting to have one back in my life but looking at eBay and various other sites they are still going for a pretty penny....

I have also seen this

https://www.thomann.de/gb/digitech_rp500.htm

It seems to have good reviews and I am going to try and see if I can find one locally to go and play with.

Does anyone have experience of ths RP500 and how it compares to the GT6-B..

Even though the Boss is now over a decade old it still hold up strong and my budget cannot strech to the new ME- 50B

So its do I go shiney and new or go a rough and ready ??

Any thoughts would be great :)

Thank You

Ben

2. Congratulations on a fantastic birthday present. .. I have owned 2 Shuker before one of which being a 4 string Horn. Absolutely cracking instruments.

Did you spy mine whilst at Jon? :D

In a word

Enjoy!

3. Update

Jon has found some interestingly figured snakewood as well as some burbinga and paduke.

Pictures will follow shortly

Bass is at the smoothing and polishing stage.

It's getting closer..

Predicted time was October though he said if all goes well it should be ready july/August time as he isn't waiting on hardware.

We've also decided on a 3+1 headstock

Just to be different for a change...
:)

4. A bump in the road

Having been excited to see the body in progress Jon sent me an email update last night that read

"having no luck with the sap on both sides cocobolo, i do have some but its cracked all over because to get the sap on both sides it has to come from a very small tree and has to be the first cut off the log, hence a bit unstable and generally cracked from drying. My wood chap has had a good rummage and theres nothing at present that is suitable or any way near dried, so wondering if you had any other thoughts or if you want me to look for something else?"

So it's back the drawing board I've emailed him with a few options and he is going to have a rummage :D

All part and parcel

Lovely bass, I love Jon's work.

As a matter of fact, in the third picture, that's my new bass in the background...I'm picking it up next Monday :D

Should be a cool adventure for you... Bit miffed you might get to spy my bass before I do.. Lol... Only j/k... :)

Let us all know the low down when you receive yours and give Jon and Ruby a hello from Ben.. Hehe

All the best

6. The warm tone is something I've been after. The GB is about as in your face as you can get. So the walnut body will definitely add some much needed warmth to the mix.

Took me ages to decide upon the pickups and hope Jons recommended EMG X series are the perfect match.

7. I've been wanting to start one of these ever since I laid down my deposit.. Now with last night's email from Jon containing the first images I decided it was about time to start the thread.

So getting down to the specs..

I had a Shuker Series II Elite 5 string made quite a few number of years ago and stupidly sold this as I didn't really get on with / need 5 strings. (one of those moments when you wish you hadn't sold it).

So I decided to go for the same body shape but in 4 string guise. This project has been about getting a totally different bass to my other basses a GB IV and a Yamaha PJ but, also about cost cutting. After consulting with Jon a lot things to leave out in a bid to get the best bass I could afford with the budget I had.

So after a bit of banter we settled on the following spec

Shuker S2 shape with a slight revised lower horn and a thinner body profile

34" scale
24 fret
40mm
19mm string spacing
20.5mm neck depth at first fret
22.5mm at 12th

Black Walnut body
With a Camphor wood top
Cocobolo heartwood Fingerboard

5 piece laminated neck (maple/wenge)
Matching Headstock

two way truss rod
carbon fibre reinforcement
medium fretwire
2mm side dots
no face dots
Gotoh GB707 tuners (3+1)
brass nut
satin neck lacquer

polyester base coat
wet look gloss topcoat
individual bridge units
black hardware
neutrik locking jack
Shuker 3 band cct with external mid freq, 18v, following body curve
Dual HB's, EMG 35TW-X's,

Shuker branded Hiscox case

So the exciting news is last night I received pictures of the body as it's had its first coat of lacquer. Looks immense with some very intriguing patterns on the drop top.

The neck blank is currently being shaped and Jons wood guy should be getting some lovely cocobolo heartwood in soon so we can choose the fingerboard.

A shaping up to be another of Jons finest.

Watch this space for more images.... Hoping to get to Jon to choose the fingerboard wood in person.

Cheers for reading

8. Now I am excited,

Just finalising my new bass with Jon,

I've had 2 of his basses both were stunning,

This new one will be absolutely amazing if this work is anything to go by.

Awesome..!!

Do you know us British have some of the best builders in the world, make me humble to be sure. :)

9. Hey,

Thanks thus far.

As far as i can see the black and grey wires feed into the Bart Pre-Amp ?..

Ive taken the batteries out and the white wire feeds through to there..

If you look at the pictures you'll see there is 2 grey wire is the 3rd+5th from the left on the pre-amp and the black is the last wire

2 Grey Wires = 2 Pickups
Black = Earth ??

10. Hey peeps,

My jack socket on my roscoe just stopped working the other day after a bit of crackling for a few days.

I've opened up the back and dismantled the socket and the problem one wire had complete come away from the connection on the socket and one was hanging off.

So right..time for the soldering iron... easy fix...except.

In typical man style....I forgot to look which wire goes where...

Ive uploaded a fairly pooh picture but hopefully it will be enough...

I have three wires

Black
Grey
White

The White is connected fine its the Black and Grey Wires

Looking at the jack socket the white wire is connected on the left hand terminal...is it White Black Grey or White Grey Black..

Thanks for reading

11. Hey peeps,

My GB really needs a good tweak and setup..I am reluctant to ship it back to GB in Brighton just cause of cost and transit issues.

I live near leeds and just wondered if anyone knew anywhere or anyone that does a good job and doesn't cost the earth.

I have email Paul Mann in Huddersfield and he is currently snowed under...(nice to here UK builders are still alive..!!)

Jon Shuker is the same and also sheffield is a bit of a B**** to get to atm...

So any ideas peeps?..

Cheers Everyone

12. Hey,

Up for grabs are a set of Nordie Big Single 4's... I bought a Roscoe LG3000 and it came with these as an extra...Some might argue they are better pups than whats in there but I really love the sound of my Roscoe so why change it?

Speaking to the guy I bought the bass from he fitted them one afternoon but having gigs to do he reverted back so he didn't have to work out new settings and just never put them back as he bought a new Spector Bass.

They come with everything...including the mounting screws...!!

These are currently on Ebay.com for $165.00 so I am now asking just £75.00 for them including postage and packing

I am near leeds so would be happy for someone to collect.

You can pay via PayPal or how ever you want.

I've not wacked them on ebay feeling here is the best place.. :)

Cheers Peeps

Doing a bit of clearing out...

I have on offer a BX3000T which in perfect condition, its never been gigged and just for practices so I didnt have to carry my EBS rig around but since my new band has an Ampeg head its now surplus to requirements.

Its also comes with foot swtich to use the Ultrabass and Shape features.

I am sure you guys know what this is but just in case http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/BX3000t.aspx

Supplied with manuals, kettle lead and jack to jack link cable.

I can post this item but it would be around £15 to do so or else you can collect in person I am located near Leeds.

The price a very reasonable £110...one sold on ebay last week for £127 without the pedal.

Cheers peeps
